Black - DN05 TWZ - Known to anyone here?...and other n00b questions

Featured Replies

Hey

I've just looked at this VRS at a garage near me and wondered if it previously belonged to someone on here, and if they could give me any history on it?

First time I've driven a VRS, but was mighty impressed. Currently drive a 1.6 Polo GTI.

Could anyone else help me with a few niggles I have on my mind?:

1. The alloys were a tiny bit corroded, is this something to expect? - I know my Polo Alloys are very corroded

2. The drivers window seemed to make a wierd screech, like it was tight against the rubber or something - is this an easy fix?

3. Has already been remapped. Advert said to 160BHP, but the salesman said 170. Couldn't see any mods in the engine - is there anything I need to worry about?

If anyone has got any tips of what I should be looking out for, I'd really apprechiate it!

:o I know this is no use to you at all, but if you're local to me and plan to get rid of the Polo, any chance I could swap/come to an arrangement with parcel shelves? Mine has 6x9s and I hate them!

1. Is it surface corrision like the Polos suffer, or is it deeper set? If it's deeper might need to worry about losing tyre pressures I guess. Could be caused by kerbing I guess. I looked at a couple and there was some corrison on the faces, but not enough to worry about.

2. Seems to be a commonish problem. Guess you've suffered it with the Polo too? Might fix it my spraying/lubing the runners/guides up. Or it could be the regulator needs replacing (or will at some point).

3. Can of worms with remaps potenitally. Depends whose done it as to how much you need to worry.

How did you find the vRS? I found them wollow-y and kinda boring strangely.

If its the newer engine which I think is 56 plate onwards (may be wrong) it should have a kkk turbo and if you look on here for ten mins you will see they fail all the time. Mine was at 35000 miles. Check its had all services carried out including cambelt at 60000/4years ... Leaky door seals. Check for splits or wear on the rear door seals as they very commonly leak. Does the turbo whine slightly? Is the turbo noise fairly noticable? mine was for a while before it went. Wishbone bushes tend to deteriate pretty easily, check by trying to push the wheel backwards when the car is of handbrake applied and out of gear. If it moves easy then take a look underneath to see if the bushes have split. Corrosion, Yes that is normal after 4 years or so, I wouldnt worry about that but try to haggle for some money off to have them sorted. A remap should give anywhere between 160-170bhp in some cases more, These figures sound safe and like any other remap. You can usually tell if they have had any majour work involving bumpers off because the bumpers never really line up again once they have been off. Good luck with the purchase (if you go through with it)

Didnt the old engines come with KKK turbo's!?

Thanks for the quick replies.

Trigger, sorry not local. Corrosion was cosmetic rather than anything too sinister - guess I'm just being picky. Not had trouble with the windows in my Polo.

Quite enjoyed the vRS; much quicker than my Polo. But I guess that can be expected - 125BHP vs 160/170!

Cambelt was changed at 38k IIRC - the previous owner changed it as soon as he bought the car. Is on 68k now, I think.

Got no idea when it comes to the turbo - was the first time I've driven a car with a turbo - what exactly am I listening for?

There seems to be a lot of Polo GTI owners on here. Me included! The Polo is better to drive round the B roads and handles much better than the Fabia. I personally prefer the Fabia for longer trips.

I think I have a spare parcel shelf for sale in mint condition if you you are looking for one?

Sorry to go OT.

I'd agree with the handling. And it's awful long distance, but not really applicable to me, so not a concern.

And you have PM, save messing up this thread.

I'm having trouble with the Polo - stiff gear changes and the clutch feels like crap - was recently replaced too.

Plus its too expensive to run. Insurance shot up this year, tax is like double what the vRS costs; and I have to fill up with V Power or Momentum 99 - anything else makes the exhaust emmisions light come on!

Plus I've got a 2 year old and its just too small; the push chair fills the boot and the little bugger keeps kicking the back of my seat.

All fabias were fitted with kkk's.
