Hello & HELP! DPF issues?

Featured Replies

My point wasn't that the car will fail emissions, as stated the emissions will almost certainly be ok.

My point is that MOT tests are being widened to check for things that aren't currently in the test, such as non-conforming HID lamps.

It's quite possible that there will be an addition to the test to say that if a DPF was fitted it should remain fitted. In light of this I'd recommend that if you do have the DPF removed that it looks like it's still there, that should be enough.

Removing the whole thing and putting a straight thru pipe on could cause problems in the future.

If you doubt this advice, just ask Ben @ Shark, he knows more than most on this subject and this is his approach too.

there is some thought that missing emission controls may be a mot failure in the near future regardless of if the car passes the actual test.

Im sure someone somewhere can clarify. if you remove the insise of the dpf it will still appear as though it has one.

If your dpf is still good I would consider sourcing one from a scrappy & knocking the inside out of that to use & keep the old one just in case

Just wanted to say "thanks" to all those who offered help on this.

Not had any problems since we've had the car back so fingers crossed it just needs to be driven like it's stolen once a week to keep the DPF clear until I can get it deleted.

Good news!

If you want advice on a DPF delete have a word with Ben@Shark as he will give you honest advice, not a sales pitch.

That's exactly what I was trying to say, but clearly failed to do! Cheers.

I've just had a similar problem, warning lights on, limp mode etc. Dealer said it was probably an exhaust sensor but to my surprise a forced regen at the dealer has cured the problem - 40 quid. He also told me they would be reluctant to change the DPF if it starts to become a problem because, as we all know, it's too expensive. He has a contact with a german company (no name given) that can thoroughly clean the filter rather than me buying a new one. Quoted me £250 to do it, a lot cheaper than a new one and another option to consider if people are worried about how the removal and re-map may affect passing an MOT now or in the future

I don't know if it would work with a VW DPF but with the Peugeot ones I have heard of people washing the filter out with a pressure washer with good results.

Garages are apparently reluctant to do it though as the gunge that's washed out of a DPF is unpleasant stuff, not allowed to go down the drain and not easy to dispose of on a trade waste basis.

Gratefull that my 2.0 1.4 HP PD has not got a DPF , good luck to you all who have them with PD engines.
