VRS engine whine

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've just noticed recently over the past few months that when my 08 TFSI VRS is first driven from cold there is a whining noise coming from within the engine bay. The noise seems worse when the engine is cold and goes away slightly when warm. I've had a listen under the engine bay and it also does it when you rev the engine at a standstill.

Only got a month of warranty left and don't want to be fobbed off with lame excuses, car has only done 17k. Any suggestions as to what it could be?

Get a video and lets have a listen, could be anything from a dry aux belt to a cam belt bearing.

My Alternator used to whine on my old car it was faulty listen near there.

Had another listen today, sounds like it could be alternator, got it booked in at dealer for Saturday morning.............hopefully nothing major! If I get the chance I'll try and post a video before it goes to dealer.

Did you get this sorted? What was the problem?
