Cleaning an MR2, need a few bits, advice please.

Featured Replies

Hi all, after machining my car the other day I have now got interest to machine someone else’s car.

It's a toyota MR2 03 plate in silver. I plan to get the soft hexalogic pads and use the 3M polish I have left over.

But she wants me to do the interior, red leather and black plastic with caked on make up so I need something to help get it all clean but it needs to be cheap but not so cheap it doesn’t actually work. I also need something to clean the wheels as well. What would you suggest.

Also a little advice as well. With it being soft paint is there any extra precautions I need to take or just do it the normal way with the softer pads?

Thanks,

Damian.

Not wanting to put you off but I think it would be worth doing some research on DW for example, it sounds like although someone may be keen for you to attend to their car maybe you don't have all the correct tools to complete the detail?

A good product that can be used on both interior's including leather and wheels would be Megs APC.......

Are you using a DA or a Rotary?

What bits do you think I am missing?

To wash...

Pressure washer

Wheel brushes

Spray bottles

Car shampoo

Lambs Wool mit

Drying towels

wheel brushes, various styles

To prep...

Clay bar,

Detailing wax

window cleaners

various thickness micro fibres

To detail...

3M polishes, various strengths

Currently thick paint hexalogic pad

Strong lights

To finish...

Colinite 915 wax

Need to get some panel wipes and a few other bits yet. But the owner is willing to buy the bits for me doing it for free.

A PTG is a must! Esp if your doing other peeps cars!!

Have you done a test section on a panel of the car to confirm how soft/hard the paint is to achieve the desired correction? I say this as every car is different & having owned 2 fairly recent Toyota's personally - Black MR2 (soft clearcoat) & a Red Celica (ridiculously hard) don't believe all you read on the web regarding soft/medium/hard/mega hard clearcoats being applicable to every car by 'x' manufacturer.

As others have said Megs APC would see you well with the complete interior cleaning, both plastics & leather.

APC may also be fine for the wheels, although this depends entirely on how dirty they actually are..brake dust, tar etc.

Enjoy!, they're only small & the panels are nicely shaped for machine work.
