Removing Wax with IPA

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I've noticed a lot of the professional detailers mentioning they use IPA to remove old wax from cars.

I am guessing they are referring to Isopropyl Alcohol?

The thing is I have been looking for a decent degreaser for the car, and I always have this stuff knocking about, I use it for all-sorts!

So, is it safe to use?

Cheers.

I would guess you mean detailers using an IPA wipedown after polishing where it's used to remove polishing oils but could indeed be used to remove waxes I guess, a good clean cloth would be required and it would need to be cut with water but what application would you use it for?

I want to remove old wax before claying, applying Poorboys Black Hole and then a new layer of wax.

I've been told washing up liquid does quite a good job too?

Ah right, I was led to believe this only removed some of the wax and not all of it.

i recently had issues with my wax, looked like it had runs in it(weird). removing it proved to be a nightmare, tried alchol wipes, clay bar, swissvax paint cleaner etc etc etc. i ended up needing to use a light cut polish, paint cleaner then a paint prep wipe......the joys :)

Bilt Hamber Clay and some washing up liquid and hot water = no wax!!
