VRS head unit aggro

Featured Replies

Hi all

Fitted an Alpine head unit to the VRS along with the infill plate, look OK (ish).

Cant seem to get the unit far enough back into the console??

Also, it appears the poxy console is curved, making my ICe install look like something off blue peter

Any ideas as to get the unit sittng flush?

Thanks

Dave

It's probably fouling on all the wiring and connectors. You need to push the bulk of the wiring and connectors down and clear of the back of the head unit to give it enough clearance.

If that is the case, it's a doddle to remove the glove box (3 or 5 screws) and use a hook/coat hanger to pull the wires out of the way, and then push it back again. Took me about and hour to get away with the CD changer stuff, and the various iPod/aux leads.

Thanks mate, I guess I was hoping for a lazy bast easy fix :D

Might have to find a kid with ADHD & rob some of his ritalin to keep me focussed!

Yeh, Defo what above say, remove glovebox, feed your hand up into very small space and pull wiring back (after connecting to headunit!!) and push headunit back in slowly about 1hrs work to faf around and allow 1/2hr to get your hand back out  !!! Also although the top edge of stereo blends in ok the Skoda infill piece, the bottom edge of the headunit sits back, so exposes the top protruding edge of the shelf, or draw beneath it!!

Probably easier to remove the center air vent and move wiring about.

Just four plastic cards needed ( not embossed like credit cards etc) and pull it out

I just fitted a Sony single din HU yesterday- what really helped was removing the cubby immediately below it. With that out you can reach underneath the HU and help the cables find a home- worked for me anyway!

i had to file some bits down to get mine to fit flush as it was digging into the plastic =[

Now in, with only a little remodelling! I resisted the urge to use power tools too. :D

If you can, push the connection box and the bulk of the wiring upwards, downwards, sidewards or wherever there is a gap.

I fit stereos pretty much everyday and every single car has a space for this. Use a screwdriver to push wires back and make sure you don't pull out the aerial connection.
