I've been offered some s/h Audi A4 wheels from a friend. They will be cheap so I thought about using them for some winter tyres.

They are 7J 16" but ET 42 not ET 45.

Will this 3mm make a difference?

Will it give me more or less clearance to the strut (I'm having difficulty getting my mind around this)?

They will fit fine

They'll give you more clearance i.e. further 'outboard'.

Hi Tom,

yes you should be OK with those rims, going by the recommendations in the Wheel & Tyre Bible you will effectively be moving the rim 3mm further away from the suspension components.
