Hi, did you do the hardwiring yourself? I'm really interested in doing this in my new Octavia as well, to tidy things up a bit. Have you got a pic of your setup? Thanks in advance :)

Hard wiring is fairly easy.

Buy a cheap USB car charger, most come apart by un screwing the bit that goes into the ciggy socket.

I then soldered two wires to the circuit board inside.

The central connector is live.

Take out the fuse for the ciggy lighter.

Take out the cubbyhole below stereo by undoing the couple of screws. Unclip the gearstick surround.

You can now see the ciggy lighter wiring. Connect up the two wires using some kind of clip lock connector.

Remember the central wire is live.

Zip tie the newly attached charger to the rear air vent tube.

Using a long USB cable route it to where you will place it in the car. Mine is lower right of windscreen.

Thanks guys, I'll give it a go sometime during summer. Didn't look to hard, but I wil probably ask my brother in law (who's a VW mechanic) for assistance.

Ive downloaded navfree but across the top of the screen it says GPS is off!!...is there an instruction icon? i cant seem to get it to do anything !!

have you turned location services on?

deleted it and reinstalled it...now moved on to poor GPS!!Cant see anywhere to turn location servives on!!...why cant there be a help function with this!!

cheers

Kit

Location services on the iphone is a system setting, not an application setting. If the GPS is now working (albeit poor) then you've got it switched on...

found the location servives in my settings and its on...thought it was seeing as GPS is doing something....tried putting in an address around the corner and it started to look for a route...i gave up after waiting an hour!!!...think this is tosh myself!!!...might look for a better one!!

Are you trying this sat in the house, you need a clear view to satelite and is fine outdoor on in the car, mine cant pick up GPS in the house either.

Jailbreak it and then download tom-tom for free

Or just pay for it, half the price of a tt one.

Well I bit the bullet and downloaded Tomtom. Really pressed with it. I installed the western Europe version, the only thing annoying me is the lack of 7 digit postcode support.

are you sure? I've got the same app and it allows input & display of 7 digit postcodes.
