Mk1 Vrs Running costs.

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Just read through the excellent buyers guide and it has given me some food for thought.

I was just wondering how much general running costs were, tax, servicing etc etc

Cheers

Chris

It all depends how you drive them, if like me you drive quiet spirited then 30 to gallon is norm and 300 miles to 60 quid's worth of optimax,

Tax is 230ish, bloody fortune in my eyes but carnt do owt about it,

As for servicing and maintance i do it all myself so apart from parts it dont cost me anything, Ive had car about 8 months and done breather pipes, coil pack, front discs and pads and a front wheel bearing, oh and its had 4 tyres aswell 2 cos they were worn out and other 2 cos they were perished quiet badly on sidewalls due to age

Tax is expensive at £245 pa, maintenance costs are relatively cheap, with loads of parts available as they share much of the same parts with Golfs, Audis, Seats. Fuel costs are a little high as they prefer super unleaded and with a 1.8T petrol engine, it is much less efficient than a turbo diesel or some of the newer turbo petrol models coming out over the past few years.

So far my car has cost me

Breather pipe rotted > upgraded to catch can £100ish

PCV/Breather pipe £20

Coil pack £25

Everything else has been my own fault or upgrade.

As for petrol, around here it is £1.33 a litre of vpower.

Because I drive like a **** quite often so I will do 40 litres in a full week/8-9 days.If I drive nice and smooth I can make 40 litres last 2ish weeks.

Cheaper than my rover 25 to run so far.
