18 Inch Wheels - Octavia Vrs

Featured Replies

Forgive, I'm a new boy - you've probably covered this one a hundred times before. I'm sure alot of you have 18s fitted.

Can you tell me what width, offset & tyre width & profile fits without any rubbing anywhere?

Thanks,

Richard.

I guess it depends on whether you want to alter your rolling radius or not (thereby avoiding inducing errors into your speedometer). As a rule of thumb, if you want to have as close a rolling radius as possible to the original wheels, then for each inch you add to the wheel diameter, you should add 20mm to the tyre width and subtract 10% from the aspect ratio.

For example, if you were to chance the standard 17" 205/50s to 18" wheels, then to avoid changing the rolling radius you would need to fit 225/40 tyres.

I don't know about the maximum size to avoid rubbing on the wheel arches, but it would certainly depend on how much stuff you might load into the car!

I don't think you can go wider than 235. Lloyd (LLB) has 235/35/19 and I think he does get some arch rub when going other large bumps.

I have 225/45/17 and have no problems with arch rub.

Rob is correct on the 18'' tyre size; you'd only get a 0.06% rolling radius difference.

Cheers and welcome to Briskoda!

Thanks guys. I don't want to effect the rolling radius so will stick to the sizes you suggest.

Cheers,

Richard.

Hi Richard,

18" wheels are fine you won't have any problems with them. However, as mentioned I have 235/35/19 on my RS, they are also fine. I don't have many friends :) so I have no problems with the wheels on a daily basis. However, I do get some bottomimg out when going over speed bumps at high speeds!!!

Lloyd

Lloyd,

what brand of tyres did you go for?

and how do you find them?

Paul,

Depends on how many road miles you intend to do and how deep your pockets are :D

2 tyres stand out in my opinion as pure road tyres for the Octavia; Pirelli P Zero Nero & Continental SportContact 2

If you want more grip, aren't to bothered by standing water and tyre wear try; P Zero Corsa (just kin awesome :D ) or for the cheaper option Kumho Ecsta V700

Be warned though that the Corsas are very very grippy (road legal slicks) and stupidly expensive (last time I looked they were

i was looking at 215-35-19 pz nero.. cos i havre the slicks for the track... on 7" rims before you tell me there too narrow....

keeps the speedo accurate..

So what is the correct offset for an 18 x 8 wheel? 38mm, or a bit less as the rim is a bit wider? 35mm?

32 or 35
