Superb Greenline II: no-nonsence car

Featured Replies

Dear Friends!

There has been a lot of discussion on the topic of whether Superb Greenline is a compromised solution and whether some features have been sacrificed for the sake of the low consumption. Let me share my first impressions of my Superb Ambition Greenline Hatchback.

Well, to make a long story short – Superb Greenline is absolutely superb, no doubts here.

The suspension, although a bit lower than normal (ground clearance is reduced a bit), feels entirely balanced and solid and absorbs all the bumps. Compared to the “normal” Superb no differences had been detected so far. The ride is comfortable; the car is stable on the highway and in turns, no complains.

The noise level is adequate, however a bit on the loud side: the low rolling resistance tyres (Continental Premium Contact 2 E in my case) do a great job on the smooth surfaces, but are much more audible on the poor ones. It could have been better, but nothing is perfect in this world).

The five-speed gearbox is smooth and handy. The fifth speed is good for relaxed highway driving but really requires gearing down when overtaking. However, the absence of the 6-th gear is pretty much beneficial – you don’t find yourself changing gears that often (compared to Passat BlueMotion, for instance).

The Start-Stop system is surprisingly smart and does not cause any inconveniences. I’d say it’s definitely a benefit to have it. Anyway, if its not good for you, the switch-off button is just next to the gear knob.

Engine is mighty and quiet: it’s pushing the car smoothly and does not feel underpowered at all. In fact, it’s amazing how good it is in such a big car. Applauds to Skoda, really!

And finally the consumption: 4.9 in the city (no heavy traffic), 4.3 mixed. Not that bad at all!

The bottom line: amazing car, outstanding value, and almost no sacrifices :)

I have my car for 6 days now and I have taken 1 long trip (220 miles) with it. I echo all you have said. Economical, great ride and great engine. An excellent package.

I am a week and a half in to my ownership of a Greenline Combi (elegance) and I would echo the sentiments above.

However, I am coming from a MKV Golf GTI and the difference between 200bhp and 105bhp was my biggest concern, so far I am not too dissapointed. I have come to the realisation that I only used the power because I had it not because I needed it. The golf served a purpose as a fun pocket rocket but now the superb is serving the requirment of a super efficient family wagon and dog carrier !!

I will be buying something silly later in the year for the weekends (boxter or JCW Mini) .. but as an economic comfy cruiser the Skoda will do me for the moment.

Getting old mate :giggle:

drove one at dealer last week...coming from a 170DSG I didn't know what to expect but it's performance was more than respectable...

After several more days of driving experience the impressions are basically the same. The consumption has raised a bit due to the two following facts: quite low non-spring temperatures (about +2 only) and the shift to summer speed limits on the highway (120 km per hour). Now it's 4.9 in avarage, but will definitely go down a bit once the temperature rises and conditioning system becomes less busy.

The engine is really-really quiet and raising the speed from 80 to 120 km per our does not actually add any noise.
