Video in Motion

Featured Replies

Am using the Columbus system, tried various methods as shown on youtube to activate the video in motion but it doesn't work on mine. Are there any other solutions to it? Can a VCDS enable it? All help is greatly appreciated..

...of what i have read there is a older sofware version that makes it work but then you are returning to a older version...and it can be also activated by a sofware similiar to vcd but you have to find someone that has it ..or you can buy it ..costs a few quids though....last solution is the vidoe in motion piece from kufatek or from ebay..

There is a way which IIRC is that you press the "i" button and then the tone button in quick succession, you should then get a beep and the video in motion will work. HOWEVER, if you were to touch any of the controls, e.g. volume, then the safety system would kick in to turn off the screen and the only way you could get it back on while moving is to stop the car and start the process all over again.

Of course you would be using this trick for the passengers as to watch the screen yourself while driving would be highly irresponsible.

This only works on the earlier units iirc. It worked on my Old Octy Mk2 Columbus unit but not on my Yeti Columbus unit! :(

External video in motion devices block the canbus signals, which the columbus uses extensively during navigation. The end result is you'll jump along the road in fits and starts and possibly miss turnings / junctions as a result. The columbus only periodicaly checks the GPS to verify its location, using the canbus signals as its primary navigation aid

Apart from the issues with navigation, some people have had other problems with these external devices

They are expensive too
