1.4 mpi hepl please

Featured Replies

Iv just bought the mrs a 1.4 mpi fabia with 130k on the clock for 350.00 to learn to drive in just 2 issues the timing chain is nosey and it is lacking power more so lower in the revs and more so when it is cold and also if you rev it up from idle there is a sort of miss-fire / hesitation between 1000 an 2000 rpm and runs slightly lumpy wen cold could this be caused by the worn timing chain

The MPi normally has a wobble at idle, it's a feature but never seems to upset them.

Timing chains are normally noisy due to no tensioner but at your mileage I would have thought a new one wouldn't be a bad idea.

The Skoda service manual suggests there are some values that can be measured using VCDS etc that indicate whether the timing chain needs replacing. If it's noisy though it won't harm to get it replaced and shouldn't cost any more than you paid for the car I don't think (which seems a bargain!) If you go to get it replaced it may be a good idea to search out details on the mismarked timing chains (which Skoda themselves supply) and print out the threads and pics to show the garage you take it to. They may thank you for saving them from doing the job again
