Tyre warning came on

Featured Replies

Hi to all.

1 week after delivery and on the way in to work this morning the message "Check your tyres" came on (or words to that effect). I pulled in and walked the around the car looking at the tyres. Nothing obvious. I got back in, restarted the car and the same message. Any ideas on what to do much appreciated. I left the manual at home on the kitchen table otherwise I'd look in that first. I have to drive to Dublin tonight (165 miles) so need my much loved car 100% fit for the ride.

Thanks,

Adrian

Go and check the pressure the psi required should be on the inside of the fuel cap.

One of the tyres will have dropped 1 or 2 psi and as the car monitors them you get told :thumbup:

Check you tyre pressures, is what this means.

This feature works off abs/ESP sensors and rotational speed. The idea is that if a tyre loses pressures, rolling radius is less effecting rotational speed. So you have a crude way of measuring tyre pressure without actually measuring it.

If all tyre pressures are ok, reset using witch by gear stick/lever

Thanks for the very prompt response. I'll nip out this morning to the local garage and put some air in the tyres. I'm glad that it's not a Fukishima type situation with the tyres and just a warning of falling pressure.

I've heard rumor that if your car is parked on hot sun, with sun directed at left or right side of sun TPM system might report false error. Sun can affect pressure of tire, just on sunny side and make difference. I've seen that topic on some VW forums.

Yes thats plausible but luckily for us we dont get sun in the UK or Ireland ;)

Bugger! We get a tad bit of sun here in Australia so good to know. So guys just to cut off your thought processes, no you can't have any of ours, we er er need it :rofl:

After 10 straight years of sunshine (and worst drought ever) the last year of rain has been very welcome :)

Fraid not ..... you need to marry your own :o

I believe they prepared the car for handover, and that include lowering the pressure from 3.0 - 3.2 atm (44 - 48 psi) during transport to 2.5 / 2.7 atm (37 - 40 psi). At this point the new pressure settings were not completed. This is why I believe the warning came on. From my experience the warning is initiated if the pressure drops with more than 0.2 atm (3 psi) and also when using the winter tire where profile depth decrease with 1 mm / 10,000 km the ABS sensor pics the rotation difference if the tires are not rotated often. I do it at every 5,000 km considering a normal run per cold season to be around 10,000km.

Enjoy your new Superb !!! :clap:

I briefly picked up my Superb Combi today from dealer, and drove straight to security workshop. So don't have car with me yet, but I had problem immediately after leaving dealer. My engine icon on dashboard was lighten up all the time. So I called them and returned, and after hooking up diagnostic tool they told me that car was in "transport" mode and they corrected it, blaming general importer who should checked that.

But now when I hear that tire pressure needs to be checked as well, is there anything else I should check regarding "transport" setup. Any checklist I can do on my own? My dealer doesn't look competent after all this.

Well not a big deal:

1. they have to remove the protective adhesive cover;

2. wash the car to remove the sealant wax

3. check and complete the fluids: engine oil, brake fluid (DOT 4/5), coolant - G12 (red), steering (I believe yours is electric);

4. lower tire pressure to operating level (see on the label)

5. add washer fluid

6. check suspension for choking sabots. Are used the restrain the car movement while transported on the trailer. Feels like running on tracks with no comfort at all.

I believe this is what I remember so far.

Safe and happy driving. :)

Check also that the downlighters in the mirrors work - if not, the car lighting is still in transport mode.

I think everything is OK now. Dancing lights work as well. Car didn't had proper wash, as I saw dozen of sticky stuff over. Also windscreen still have stubborn traces of various stickers. I forgot to check tire pressure, on the first it doesn't look to firm and visually they are not under deflated.

Thanks for check up list :)
