Skoda Felicia suspension

Featured Replies

Hi again. Need a little advice.

I took my Skoda Felicia for a MOT today but it failed. Apparently my rear suspension has gone. I did not even notice it. See here for what they said were wrong.carproblems.jpg

This isn't the first time the suspension has gone on this car. It seems to be a common fault with the Felicia.

Anyway the garage has given me a quote but still is a lot for me.

They want £120 for the coil spring and £40 for the top mount and another £60 for a top mount on the other side. Now I am not silly but am no car expert. My questions is, don't you have to replace the whole lot? and would it not be cheaper than to do it that way? I can't see how they can replace a top mount plate, unless they weld one together. That sounds like a bodge job to me. I could really do without the cost at the moment but don't want to waste money and it fail again in a few months.

Anyone know how much the parts cost at skoda? And what are the part numbers?

Thanks.

Have a look at jorily.com for prices. Short reply as I'm on my phone...

you shouldn't pay more than £60 for a pair of rear coil springs which you should be changing in pairs.

and Jorily sells a complete shock absorber kit with top mounts etc etc for like £70 let me find the link

here it is

the rear suspension is significantly easier than the front to work on, where are you based in the UK because maybe a fellow briskodian can help you change it yourself.

Yeah, sorry about the short reply. The rears are a piece of cake to change, you have a bolt underneath on each side and then a top mounting nut on each side. They can be done in 10 minutes if you're just replacing the lot. Given the kit above and a pair of springs the new rears can be built up off the car, and then replaced like that, it's not difficult at all, so you can save £70 AND replace all the bits by taking the way that Sonner has suggested.

yep, i it really is that simple because as djaychela said just build it off the car and bolt it in.

im based in East sussex but work in south kent, if you need a hand.

Thanks everyone. Yes they are much cheaper. Only thing is, you have to do the work on it. If it's anything like my last problem, maybe not so easy.

Well i called skoda for a quote today and this is the price.

For each suspension spring and plate, all including labor and VAT, £136 each. The garage that failed my car, use copy versions, not official skoda parts. Though i would only pay more, if the parts are better quality and last longer.

Honestly, it really is easy. And you'll also know it's been done properly!

I wouldn't say the Skoda parts are necessarily better in quality - after all, they have a serious problem with rust as stock!

I replaced all my suspension by myself in a day, and Im certainly no mechanic. I would say the fronts took up 4/5ths of the time, the rears really were easy peasy! Have a go!

im trying to teach my little sister a thing or two about cars,

i have a set of lowering springs to go on soon, i am going to make her change the rear srings herself and i am gonna watch and instruct her.

she is only 14yrs old, and i have never changed springs before, if we can do it anyone can!!!

the stuff i put links on here for are good quality parts.

i'm actually quite proud of her, she reeled of an explanation as to how longer duration camshafts give more bhp to her school teacher at parents evening the other day, she even mentioned that some valves are for exhaust and some are intake, and that 4 cylinder engines that have 16v normally have two camshafts not one....

i think i'm turning her into a bit of a Letty off F and F...
