Featured Replies

Hi,well i brought brand new fabia vrs and got it 70mile from garage and started hunting, and then stalling, the garage only had unleaded in so had to put this in an done my trip and this started happening. The problem i have also is i live on an island and none of the garages supply super or better, if i had none this i wouldnt have brought it!! i hope they fix it as im 22 and cant afford throwing 14k away.

you could use the standard and add an octane booster ?

I used to own a Honda S2000. The engine produced at the time of release the highest BHP Per Litre of any Naturally Aspirated engine (my car did a dyno proven 243 BHP).

The car HAD to be run on 97RON/Super (100 RON in Japan, where it produced more power) because of the compression of the engine. Running the car on 95 ron fuel, or fuel which had been in the tank for a while would cause pinking (hard to describe the sound), but basically the engine didnt like it at all and would retard the ignition to protect itself.

I've only driven a Fabia VRS once, but would be amazed if, even though it is a twincharged engine, a car like a VRS would have enough compression to cause the issues described in this thread from running on 95ron fuel. The engine would simply pull back the ignition and put out less power, much like it will do on a hot day or if it sensed detonation through crap fuel (Fuel iginition before the piston gets to TDC and you get spark). You wouldn't get these prolonged issues.....

At least, thats my 2 pence anyway !

indeed, the handbook says the same.. it will run fine on 95, but is not what the engine is designed for, so the computer will retard ignition (causing loss of power/torque and economy) to prevent detonation...
