FABIA mk 2 MDI and Auto Lock

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Got a mk 2 Vrs on order and just a couple of questions for you lucky owners.

In relation to th MDI lead, I'm looking at using a 16gb USB stick. I did this on a Civic Type-r and to be honest it was painfully slow going through the folders, I reverted back to MP3 cds.

Is it any quicker on the Fabia ?

Also does any one have the auto lock / unlock enabled ?

If so I take it it locks above say 10mph then lets you unlock with one pull on the handle when stopped or does it unlock under a certain speed.

Only reason I ask is if it unlocks itself it seems to defeat the purpose of auto locking ie to stop anyone getting in the car whilst stationary.

Thanks in advance

They don't normally unlock themselves unless you open a door or press the unlock button near electric window switch.

I got auto lock enabled a few weeks back by the dealers, it wasn't enabled by default.

It locks after 10mph and does not unlock again unless you press the unlock button on the centre console, or pull on one of the door handles from the inside.

In regards to the MDI, a lot of us on here use a Seagate Freeagent GoFlex 250gb HDD, works brilliantly. They were on offer at Maplins for £36 if I remember correctly. Not sure if the offer is still on though.

Hope this helps.

It is worth noting that you need to pull on the interior door handle TWICE to open the door (make sure everyone in the car is aware of that otherwise a broken handle will be the result) however once the ignition key has been removed just one pull will open the doors

Personally I am not a fan of it, but I can see it could be beneficial to someone living, working or commuting through a 'rough' area.

The VAG MDI is a good system and quite quick to respond. One problem is navigation on the Swing (RCD310) head unit, if you have a big hard drive or big ipod classic then it becomes difficult to find the track or album you are wanting to listen to when you have to scroll through one line of text at a time.

The MDI is a totally different experience on the Bolero (RCD510) or Columbus (RNS510), the 6.5" touch screen allows much more information to displayed and side scroll bars allow easy navigation. I'd recommend this uprgade to anyone, it's by far the best thing I've done in my Passat.

I've ordered the Fabia with the Amundsen (RNS310) which has a 5" touch screen, I'm hoping MDI navigation will be nearly as good as the bigger units.

(Model numbers in brackets are VW equivalents)

Cheers

Thanks for all the replies.

I think I'll just stick with the MP3 cds and leave the door locking as it comes.

Both seem like more hassle than they're worth to be honest.

Some times simpler is better !

Not long now week 18 build and May delivery

When my doors auto lock I only have to pull on the handle once to re-unlock the door.

That must be the auto unlock at work then, I'll make enquiries with the dealer as that would make more sense

Yes newer VAG cars with auto unlock you only have to pull the handle once and all the doors unlock, they then relock when you drive on. My old MK5 Golf didnt do this, you had to pull the handle twice, once to unlock and once to open. Definitely an improvement.

Yep, my doors auto lock, and one pull opens them, I wonder if this is a setting that can be setup when it is activated? (It wasnt setup as standard, but took the dealer about 5 mins to change.

I use a 8GB usb and it it just as quick as using the mp3s on a PC... The navigation is a bit cumbersome, but I simply remember which albums I have on there and what order they are in, so if I want to skip, I can hit the "folder up" button 5 times (Or whatever) This is the reason I didnt opt for the hard drive mentioned above. You can still fit about 20 hours or more on an 8 gig stick more than enough to keep you going for a few months, then jsut change the music for something new...

compaired to the blue & me on my fiat the skoda system is feeble with memory sticks, I have an 8gig one, and it takes up to 15 minutes for it to "initialise" in the vRS, in the fiat, it was instant. apparently though you can fix it by buying the proper hardrive that skoda reccomends (bit of marketing tie up I think?!) this one.. http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Product/38534/Seagate-250GB-hard-disk-drive-External-FreeAgent its not expensive, and fits the space perfectly, I may get one, as it annoys me that I can't get instant music from the MDI.. pretty poor if you ask me.

my doors were done by a very friendly member at a meet! I disabled the "security" feature that only unlocks the drivers door, it now unlocks everything at 1 touch, locks everything when you move off, and unlocks everything when you remove the key from the ignition! thanks briskoda special techs ;) you know who you are :) (Jase!)

indeed, I'm gonna have to cave in and buy the specific hard drive... on the plus side with 250gig, I can download my PC's whole music folder AND swmbo's music folder from her PC too! lol...
