Bolero USB interface (MDI)

Featured Replies

I bought a new Octavia about a couple of months ago with the Bolero unit fitted but didn't order it with the optional MDI interface as I assumed this could be retrofitted. But Skoda UK say not, as it needs a different wiring loom installed at the time of build by the factory. What I want to do is to be able to connect my MP3 player via a USB interface so I have full control of it on the Bolero head unit (ie album/artist/track selection). If I could add Bluetooth also for mobile phone, that would be ideal.

There seem to be a lot of third party aftermarket interfaces around. I've tried one but couldn't get it to work even after trying a few connection alternatives at the suggestion of the suppliers, but to no avail.

So my question is, does anyone know if I can achieve what I'm after and if so what kit do I need?

Thanks in advance and sorry if this has been asked before!

Of course MDI can be fitted, although a dealer maybe reluctant to do it.

The kits on ebay all come with the correct wiring loom.

Thanks for your replies so far.

What I really need to know is which interface will work with the Bolero? I have tried one aftermarket device that did not work and I am apprehensive about spending a lot of money on a Skoda/VW interface (Part no 5N0 057 342 I think) unless I can be sure it will work (Skoda UK say it needs a different factory fitted loom to be installed at the build). The connectors within the Quadlock plug on my car did not match up with the multi pin connectors on the third party interface either physically (different shape) or electrically (different pin outs). So does the blue plug on the Quadlock get replaced by a matching plug on the Skoda/VW interface and does this interface have a "through" connector so the integral CD player can be reconnected at the same time as the USB interface?

Thanks

Roger
