A.F managed to beat my Aviva by £20. Next exactly earth shattering considering I removed the <25 driver as well, and I had mentioned Briskoda. If that was with the "up to 15%" discount for mentioning Briskoda, then the premium was way higher than Aviva.

So from £610 to £590......

.....to £450 through a Moneysupermarket search. (still without the <25 driver). Not sure what I'd be getting for my £140 from A.F really.

Still have 2 weeks to search, but £140 is £140. Will try some more tomorrow.

Got mine for £425, commercial (it's used for work)

24,000 Milage

£200 Excess

Windscreen, legal cover, personal accident cover.

£425. (Go Compare ---> Van Quote Direct ---> checked all the details and the quote went from £480 to £425. Everything's ticked and sorted.)

Sorted. If I can get a job closer to home next, I can lower the policy milage.

Aviva wanted £620 for renewel, Adrian Flux was not far behind (even with the Briskoda discount, Direct Line quoted £810.

It pays to shop around. Am paying the same this year as I did last year now :-)

Aviva is what was once Norwich Union. "Quote me happy" ???? Only if I've got shares!

(The £450 montioned in the previous post didn't include legal and windscreen)

Insurance companies... you have got to love them.

When I first passed my driving test I was added as a named driver on my mums Fiat Cinquecento for about 150 quid, from what I can remember, then one day my mum was driving home from the shops when she was hit by an uninsured driver in front of a Police car. She stopped and naturally exchanged details, only to find out that not only did the girl that hit her have no insurance but she also had no licence. Brilliant... So the matter was dealt with by the Police, or rather it would have if she had bothered to attend court after being reported for driving otherwise than in accordance with driving licence and without insurance. My mum got no compensation and had to make a claim on her own insurance to get the car repaired despite the fact that both the insurance company and the officers on scene agreed that it had not been her fault the collision occurred. Moving on by 8 months, mums car was repaired and I was back using it again and she gets her renewal through. The insurance had gone from about £300 fully comp to £3600 (no that's not a typo). It get's better too, because on looking at the policy renewal documents £2400 of that increase had been to add me as a named driver on the renewed policy. I had not had any convictions for driving and hadn't even been in the car when my mum was involved in the crash, let alone been driving. Needless to say she did not renew with them.

As a result of the above incident I have to confess that I now take great delight in taking uninsured and unlicensed motorists off the road, by seizing their cars and putting them before the courts. The joys of being a Police officer.

This year I had my insurance renewal through from Adrian Flux for the Evo X. Last year it was £700 and this year the renewal was £2600. Again, I had incurred no points or been involved in any collisions, and had also passed my I.A.M Advanced Driving Course during the course of the year. Again I did not renew with them. I did however phone and say they had obviously made a mistake. On querying the quote they stated that the company they had used to insure my car the previous year was no longer trading with them and so they had gone to the next company on their books. I then asked for another quote and they managed to drop it by £1500, which, if I am honest wound me up even more, because this is surely the price I should have been quoted on my renewal. In the end I went with Admiral for £660.

I think the moral of the story is look around every year for the best possible deal because there is every chance that your renewal price will be a lot higher than you first think.

Something else I have been told by a colleague who used to work in the insurance industry is that you should start looking for insurance about a month before it is due to run out and when you have found the best price accept it straight away. The reason for this is because as you renewal date gets closer the premiums quoted will go up, as the closer you get the more desperate you become. Insurance companies know this and so load the premiums the closer to the date of expiry you do.

Regards

Mark
