Looking to buy first Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

At the moment I drive a Renault Sport Clio 182 but have just bought a house and need to save a bit on fuel and would also appreciate a bit of comfort on longer drives. I think the vRS fits the bill well.

One that has caught my eye locally is a 2 owner 05 plate on 50,000 miles and a good service history although the belts have not been done. The seller claims the car has been remapped by a company in Glasgow to roughly 185 BHP. It certainly feels very quick from the inside.

My concerns are just if this could be a good move? The seller is asking £5500 but has said he will take £5000 for a quick sale as he needs the car gone before he goes to work on the rigs. I would offer him £4900 to take into account some of the cost of the cambelt change.

The car seems straight and the clutch has plenty of bite still but do you more experienced people think this is a wise buy? What should I expect to pay for a cambelt change in Aberdeen?

Many thanks

Ewan

Seems a reasonable price to me and if everything seems to be in order then go for it.

A cambelt and water pump will cost in the region of £300-£400 depending on where you go, cheapest will be a vag specialist.

It looks clean enough.

It's worth checking to see if the rear carpets are wet, there's a issue with water getting in through the door cards and if left for a long time can begin to rot. It's an easy fix but just check it isn't soaking wet.

As above the service will be around £350. I paid £5,000 for my vRS but I made sure he got the service done (with receipt) prior to buying it. It came to like £450. Plus mine had a few extras which I would have bought anyway: full Miltek system, Weitec GT coilovers, Pro Race 3 alloys, etc.

I reckon you could knock him down to £4,800 saying the service is £400 and you're prepared to meet halfway. As it's due every 4 years or 60,000 miles it was due quite some time ago anyway which he should have done.

Obviously check it's HPI clear and getting FSH is a bonus too. :)

+1 on the carpets mate ,,, up here we all know it rains a lot !! Take the mats out of the back and have a sniff of the carpets in the rear footwells, look for watermarks on the rear door cards as well.

I would ask for proof of the remap work, who done the work in glasgow ?

50k is around new discs and pads for normal running , with a remap they could be well gone, have a good look at them as well.

price is about right though

That one fell through as the MOT was fake. Got another today which is in ok condition. 17" wheels that are not my cup of tea and the paint needs some tlc but other than that it's good. Does anyone have some standard wheels and tyres for sale? Oh and how easy is it to source another key without involving skoda?
