Moving Off Worry

Featured Replies

Does anyone know the fault?

As move off the front wheels seem to spin and judder, and it happens a few times and then seems to be ok. I have pressed the ASR switch which seemed to sort it for a while but now it happens most times when i first set off. I need to be able to explain this fault to a German garage so i can get it sorted without them going through all systems and charging a fortune.

Does this happen on dry roads or only in the wet when trying to launch the car?

It does it in all conditions. I was hoping it was just my clutch control but theres definatly something wrong.

It may be the tyres if they are 195/65/15 "no name" that maybe can't get all the power down so the ASR intrudes.

Clutch. Here is a "trick" that cured mine. Probably garbage but it works for me.

Get in car. Foot on clutch pedal. Pump it to floor ten--twenty times while you put on your seat belt. Start. Drive off.

After a while second nature. Automatic. Simples.

My tyres are michelin pilot sport, 225/55/15 so should be ok,but ill take a look at the tread.

Surely that would indicate a clutch fault??

In that case I've had it for three years or more. It only really applies to cold starts after an overnight or longer stop. I think. I do it every time I start up now without really thinking.

All I know is I had the same as you and a tendency to snatch on gear changes at speed. This cured it.

Ok, ill give it a go.

I have a judder too when I move off but no wheel spin in a 1.6CR Greenline II, could it be the same problem?

I used to have a judder in an old car when I pulled off while turning. In the end it was one of my front shock adsorbers had become worn/weak. Changed the shocks and the problem went away. Maybe check each corner of the car to see if it rebounds correctly.
