vrs 170

Featured Replies

looking at getting a vrs 170 is there a quick way to tell the difference between the pd and cr engined cars?

Turn the engine on. Pd sounds like a tractor, the cr doesn't. Simples.

All face lift OCtavias will have the CR engine and so have the Limited edition preFL cars. Also some of the very last preFL (and non LE) cars had the CR but it is a little hit and miss. If the car you are looking at is not just before the FL ones came out then it is probably fairly safe to say ir is a PD. If it is a PD you will get a massive amount of go at around 1800rpm while the CR is more progressive throughout the entire rev range.

Why don't you phone Skoda UK and ask them for the chassis number cut off

I'm sure someone on here posted photos of the engine bay of both. Try doing a search.

My cr was a pre face lift on a 58 plate but beware that some pd's were still coming through after that time.

Mine too.

For the OP; if you, or someone else, has access to the car you can check by looking at the option codes on the sticker in the boot. I've been trying to find the exact code but can't, my car isn't here today so I can't check. Hopefully someone will post it soon.

Pics are here

Try geting the engine code.

The PD unit is BMN and the CR unit is CEGA.

Looking at the pic, the PD gets a proper battery cover and the CR gets a skanky cheapo bit of cloth :wonder:

CR sounds petrol like and redlines at 5k whereas the PD sounds like an old skool diesel and redilnes at 4.5k.

Just checked mine. Full plastic battery cover. Different to the one in the pic.

Must be a change from pre fl to fl then and not pd to cr :S

Some of the pre FL CR's like mine have redline at 4.5k too
