Bought a new lens

Featured Replies

Finally took the plunge and bought a macro enabled lens. Have been looking at a few various options recently like the Sigma 70-300mm APO, Nikkor ai and ai-s 55mm's and Nikkor 28-105mm AF-D but i could never find one within my budget which i'll be honest was quite low due to the impending new arrival. I also didn't want to spend too much as i want to see if macro is something i get into as if not i haven't spent too much and would hopefully make most if not all of the money back by selling the lens etc...

I finally happened upon a seller on ebay selling a Sigma 28-90mm f/3.5-5.6 Aspherical Zoom which has a macro facility @ 90mm. It gives 1:2 reproduction when in macro mode like the other lenses i was looking at but i managed to pick it up on the "best offer" thing for £60.

It seems to be a rare lens.... be that good or bad?!?!?! As i can't seem to find any reviews on the lens and i've had nothing back from a post i put on nikoncafe.com but i've found some great images taken with the lens over on Flickr so hopefully it'll be ok. emoticon-0144-nod.gif

So once i get it i'll get out and try my hand at some macro shots and let you know how i get on. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Cheers

Dave.

Nice!

Photography is an expensive game - I have a Nikon 35mm f1.8 and a Nikon SB-600 which i have bought recently and I need to get some use of...but its finding the time and the subjects!

I to have just bought another lense, 18 to 35mm,

my range now consists of Sony

18 - 35mm

35 - 70mm

75 - 300mm

x2 tele converter

Once it arrives the new lens will be my first non-Nikon lens... And my small collection will stand at....

Nikkor 18-105mm VR.

Nikkor 55-200mm VR.

Nikkor 50mm.

Sigma 28-90mm Macro.

Think i might also have to look out for a x2 TC like yourself.

I'd make sure you get a compatible one Dave as not all of them are!

I know... That's what's always put me off before.... Too much hard work involved in finding the right one at the right price. emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Lens arrived today and works great..... Takes a bit of getting used to being able to get down to 10cm and still focus ok. emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Still waiting for my UV filter to arrive for it and a step-up ring so as to not have to buy further Polerizer and ND filters. Will have to try and get out and about with it today or tomorrow. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Nice one Dave  Strap it on and show us some pics.

ooo-errr missus!!!! emoticon-0104-surprised.gif

I've just been out to the local park and taken a few shots which i'll put through photoshop either later tonight or tomorrow. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Thought i'd managed to break it at one point though!!! Until i realised it's like some of the Nikkor macro zooms and to put it into & out of macro you need to focus to infinity first. emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Dave the X2 tele converter was purchased from L.C.E. perfect condition. £70/£80. Also searched E Bay and they were going for roughly the same price. I got good feed back from LCE and was highly satisfied with their service. I asked the relevant questions all answered no problem. Would use them again without hesitation.

They advised when using the X2, I would have to drop 2 stops for the light, also its not very easy to use hand free, it has to be on a Tripod for stability.

PS I liked the Spring Blossom

Ok here's some of the macro shots i took yesterday using the new Sigma lens.... Still got a bit of learning to do regarding macro and they were all handheld for this initial test...

I also took some other shots with the lens to give it a general test and it seems like a good 'un... I'll post some of the other shots i got with it in another thread.

Nice snaps, Dave!

Be warned you'll lose autofocus with a 2x TC on your lenses ;)

Looking great Dave. Good buy:)

OT - My work has just loaned this beast out for a small family wedding this weekend in London town - TeleSuperPhoto
