Why disconnect MAF sensor when fittin cupra intake??

Featured Replies

why do you have to disconnect the MAF sensor first when swappin the air intake for a cupra one??

Cause it was easier for me to get a screw driver in to undo the back of the pipe.. Simple but others had found you don't need to... Personal preference really.

oh right? think i could get round it. just doin it now.

I think depending on the type of screwdriver you use the MAF can get in the way. I think I used one with about a 12"+ long blade, so went down next to the MAF and it didn't need disconnecting. Thankfully it also had a magnetised tip to make sure I didn't lose the screw as well.

if you take the air scoop off the car, (the bit that the trumpet fits into) and look at it from the front, there is a big section of plastic slopin down inbetween the trumpet and the pipe right in the way of the air flow?? what is the point of this? cant you just cut it off to give the air a clearer path??? hope you can grasp what im sayin??

If it's the bit I think you're describing, I'm pretty sure that's there to reduce turbulence, so giving a smoother air flow...

Yep - I'm sure this has been done by others, but I'm yet to attempt anything. I think I'll do some experimenting at the weekend and take some photos along the way. :D

so is it better to leave on then??

Yes Andy Ellis messed about with that piece of plastic, I think he said it makes the car more juicy if it is removed with no power gains...

Rob's right it's something to do with turbulence.
