Best time to order?

Featured Replies

I have read lots about the best time to order a new car - said to be December, or failing that towards the end of each quarter when dealers want to hit sales targets.

Does anyone think (or know) whether it actally makes a difference in terms of deals - for example when looking for a diesel estate which has a 6 or 7 month waiting time from order to build?

Advice gratefully received.

Dave

I ordered my car in July and took delivery at the end of October. This gave me a full spec'ed car with upgraded BT for my iPhone.

10 weeks for delivery was I now know very lucky.

The dealer urged me back in July to order early as they expected the 170CR engined cars to be a problem due to demand through the whole VAG range.

The dealer used the bait also that the VAT rate was increasing and the later I left it the more it would cost me.

The MY dates change in May each year, so if you order after May you get next year's spec.

Good luck Dave, it is a great car.

Phil.

I guess it depends on circumstances. Things like do you have a trade in etc etc.

If you have a trade in just after a plate change you will probably find dealers have lots of stock so you will get less for your car. The flip side of this is that they will have fewer orders as they have just delivered all the plate change cars.

If you are looking at waiting times and you place an order after Skoda UK have used up their quarterly factory allocation then your order will not even get a look in until the start of the next quarter.

It is pretty much like any other market place and determined by supply and demand.

Because of the lead times it doesn't really matter when you order as retailers aren't targetted for orders just registrations.

Are you after a petrol or diesel?
