DSG or Maunal ?

Featured Replies

Im with newbie on this i cant see why you would move to N when still moving.

There's always one two! :wonder: :p

i dont think it will do the box any good

With the DSG, when you slot it into neutral it's a real neutral, drive is disengaged. A neat feature is that unlike a lot of autos, you can slot it straight back into drive without using the footbrake (only possible if rolling at more than ~3mph or something for safety).

and if you have to do that to the box to keep it smooth

No, you do it because you're coming to a stop and staying stationary for a while. If you're in stop / start traffic, it makes more sense just to leave it in gear - you'll be just out of drive before you need to select drive again - much easier to just come to a halt in D and move off again.

The benefit of knocking it into neutral on the way up to a red traffic light is there's no engine pushing against your brakes - you're not wearing out your brake pads more than you need to. It's the same idea as coming to a halt in a manual, you'd dip the clutch when you felt the engine pushing against the brakes (otherwise it'd stall!) if you haven't already dipped it sooner.

then it's just a waste of money. ur money ur choice no one else's

It's possibly still a waste of money right enough, on the same logic that spending more than £300 on any car is a waste of money -- a taxed & tested £300 jalopy will manage the task of getting from A to B just as well as a £127,000 Aston. But we all make choices right? So if you choose an auto, i'd be surprised if you were disappointed with the DSG auto.
