Featured Replies

hi

need a bit advice from all you chaps and chapettes

need to replace some wooden slats in the back, are they screwed in from underneath or what? the short ones by the sliding bulk head have rotted a bit and i think they will be quite easy to dig out...

am getting some bodywork done and need to remove a frog decal, can these still be bought or have i got to try to remove the decal,if thats the case whats the best way..i was thinkig a har dryer but husband thinks the decal will crack as it is old...

lastly have found a breaking fun in leicester here is the link (hope this ok)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250804396273

i have just bought the steering wheel with nice yellow leather as currently my wheel has turned the usual black colour, once thats on it is going to get a cover so its stays a nice colour!

Grateful for any help!

Hi,

The slats are bonded down with some black slicia type stuff. Most of mine had rotted, so I used a blunt chisel to take the wood off, slowly and carefully, then a razor-blade to take the remaining black stuff off. I got a load liner from eBay for about 25 quid to protect the bed for the time being before I get round to re-doing the wood.

I suspect the decals are long out of stock. There are some places that can scan and print what you've got, so they be fresh frogs ;-)

What are you doing with the old wheel? Is it just the colouring that's gone?

:-)

hi the color has gone but the leather and stitching is in good condition,it is just lost the colour.i did buy some yellow paint that i saw recommended on a petrol head type site (its a bottle of yellow dye and cleaner and some pigments to add that get you to the exact match),i talked to the supplier and it seems its good but i chickened out and decided to wait until i saw a better wheel

i got the paint from below

There email address is [email protected] or phone him on 01582 499777 his name is steve.but if you phone him he knows all the colours, it was about 30 quid, i might try this on the seats...

once the new wheel has come and is fitted the other one will be going begging so if you are interested tell me

Hi,

I've got most of the 'Fun' interior sitting in my garage waiting for re-colouring, sadly the wheel is in very very poor condition and needs re-stitching before even thinking about colouring, and that's something way out of my capability :( If the stitching is good on yours (other than the colour), please keep me in mind when you have changed it over. (When you change them over, don't forget to disconnect the battery before doing anything, otherwise you'll end up with the air-bag warning light on)

:-)

lol, we crossed posts! ;)

Thanks for that info, I'll give him a shout once I've cleaned the bits that I have got. :-)

hi

will be in touch as soon as the new one is fitted, if there a way i can private message you so you can give me your phone number/email address and i can tell you when it is ready to go and i can send you some pictures,

wont be fitting it myself as i am useless in the mechanical department! i just know what i like!

thanks for the info on the slats,i think we can manage that and maybe try to stick the new ones down with hard as nails, what do you think?

Thanks, will PM my e-mail address over :)

Not sure if no-nails type stuff is the answer , I'd got more for a similar type of agent that's aleady been used, as they're more flexable than no-nails once they've gone off. When getting the wood for the slats, don't forget to check that it doesn't foul the fold-over bar for the back seats (height-wise). The original slats probably have/had a slight shiney groove where the bar sat on them. Too high and the latches will need adjusting too.

How much stuff did you get for your £30?

:-)

hi alex

have just contacted local skoda dealer and its seems unbelievably there is one set of frog decals in the country so he is going to order it and it might be here friday..great

will try the yellow paint on an unobtrusive bit of leather and will tell you whether it is any good or not, i talked to steve (the chap who supplied it) and he said that the yellow colour was painted on and it was a black steering wheel underneath,

he also said if it was applied properly it did not come of on your hands....didnt want this happening before i got to work!

i thought that it was yellow leather but on reflection you dont get yellow cows!

am thinking you could have the wheel with postage unless you want a run down to somerset for about twenty quid delivered if you like.. this will be in a couple of weeks as obviously i need to get the new one put on before the old one can go!

noticed that you got about 40 mpg on the motorway..this is about the same for me,my fun runs on lpg so it is a little slower than when it runs on petrol but i got about 78m for the price of a gallon as the lpg is about half price..that was the best thing i did about 3 years ago

hi alex

just got the stuff out and you get

250mls of liquid leather gentle cleaner

250mls of liquid leather conditioner

65mls of scuff master (yellow, slightly mustardy colour)

5mls of a brighter yellow scuff master colour toner

5mls of scuff master gloss enhancer

i think you mix the 2 yellows together to get the right colour match

i am going to phone steve again when i am ready to do it just to make sure i get it right,it does come with instructions however.

the stuff is made by gliptone

so you think a different thing to no nails would be better?

regards

ann

Have send PM with address :-)

Good find on the decals. :) I have seen a picture of one in CZ that's got the tailgate logo much much larger and on the bonnnet. (looks quite good really) If you've got a good scanner on your PC it might be worth doing a couple of hi-res scans of them. If they're the last in the country, a scan could prove very useful in the future ;-)

The steering wheel I've got is brown underneath. IIRC black leather is usually coloured and brown is its natural starting point. (but I can easily be wrong on that).

When I used LPG in the past it gave about the same result as run on petrol, but the conversion had lowered the MPG from just straight petrol. (That was on a Tickford converted 1.6 Focus about 11 years ago). The only advantage is LPG being cheaper the petrol, but it's gradually catching up. The things that put me off are the cost of the conversion and the location of the tank (and where to put the spare wheel).

Sounds like I'd need a couple of sets to get the spares restored, but that's not a great issue.

£20 sounds good to me. I don't have any trips planned in that direction until around August. :-)

When you pickup the decals, ask the dealer if they know what was used on the slats. It was fairly rubbery and flexible, and it had already lasted 10 years, so it can't be bad. I plan to give mine several treatments of preserver before I bond them down too.

hi alex

good idea to scan them..will do that when they arrive, apparently you get the 2 frogs for the side bits beside the doors and you get a rear frog thats a bit different that goes on the taillgate, didnt realise that until i had a look just now..will send the scans over to you if you like via email

i'll ask the dealer about the slat bonding material and see what they say and tell you,i think i am going to get new ones in hard wood so they last better.well maybe more than 13 years...

after i have done them i am going to get some chequer plate for the back, son is an engineer who can do it..my idea is to get the chequer plate to the right size and have it hinged so that when the bulkhead is pushed forward you can unfold it to cover the extra area....the chequer plate is going to be mounted on something like those round rubber door stops (probably about 4 of them) so that there is a good clearance between it and the slats for ventilation..this is to help protect the back as it has got a little skarked up and i dont want any more scratching to occur...i have found a scrap metal place and they will give me apiece 8 by 4 for about 40 pounds (new i thinkit would be about 140 pounds),i might get him to weld some fixing type hook things on it as the 2 that are already in the back of the fun are not always sufficient

if you want to wait for the wheel i can hold it if you think you are in this area in august or i can get it sent up,it doesnt really matter,it will include all the airbag stuff as the new one has all of that but i'll get mike to photo it so you know exactly what it looks like, obviously i have no idea wether the airbag works or not as i have never had to use it but i am guessing it is....like every one else with airbags does!
