Rear Brake Squeal

Featured Replies

I have a bad squeal from my offside rear (drum) brake when I put the handbrake on. Have had a good look at it but can't see anything wrong.

Any advice on how I can get rid of this. Seems more prominent during colder weather. Thanks.

Maybe you ran over a fox that's still trapped somewhere? :giggle:

Canoas do tend to bind the drums in cold weather design fault apparently , could be dust build up or may need adjusting

Hi N, yep this sounds as if you may have a glazed brake shoe/s on that drum. It may have been binding gently for a while and become too hot leading to it's glazed state. When you apply the brakes a glazed shoe/s tends to squeal a bit. Most common causes are as follows...it may have been and may still be binding due to dirt/dust ingress, or a weep from the brake cylinder which accumulates dust and causes sticking of the shoe/s. It could be a handbrake cable fault or be badly adjusted. I'd get it checked out just to be safe. If you go to your Skoda dealer it may be covered under warranty, but maybe not. On your car because it is so new the adjusters should be fine.
