Not diagnosing faults?

Featured Replies

Had my vRS for almost a year now - my windscreen fluid ran out the other day, but I didn't have a warning light come on. Also my tyre had a slow puncture the other day, and again no warning light came on.

Anyone know what might be wrong, if it's a fault?

My cigarette lighter is also not working, thought it might be a common fuse, but I checked them and they seem fine...

Any ideas?

Not all the VRs models are equipped with washer fluid low warning sensors, however it is more common that they do. Has any main dealer work been done or has anyone been playing about with codings? Because it is very simple to de-code the level activation. It maybe worth getting it checked out. Main dealers can check "PR" codes, and coding activation.

With regards to your puncture issue, the TPM system isn't very good and doesn't really pick up on slow punctures. The system carries out whats called a drive cycle evry so often to check rotational speeds of all 4 wheels using the ABS sensors. It monitors them and if there is a difference of speeds, usually faster as the wheel would decrease in diameter, it will advise you there may be a flat tyre. If the pressure loss is gradual, it doesn't pick it up each time it cycles.

Also it depends on how the car is driven, if it is driven hard, the system switches off due to the rotational differences being too great.

Any main dealer will nowadays be elling you it is a "flat tyre indicator" rather then a pressure monitor, as they have no sensors in any of the road wheels.

Last but not least, the cig' lighter. If you are certian it is not the fuse, overuse can push the prongs in located inside the socket, not allowing full electrical contac. A simple "tweek" with a screwdriver usually sorts it out.

Hope this helps.

A scan with VCDS would be the starting point for me

Errr - that would be a cheap chinese fake illegal copy

Go to www.gendan.co.uk - it is about £220 ish

Find a member near to you to perform a scan - have a look in the VCDS/Diagnostics forum

I thought only VRS with headlight washers and the larger tank, had the washer warning

Wouldn't know, I was going off the earlier comment that most VRS's have it.

Of course, if it doesn't have it then VCDS would be an expensive way of finding that out emoticon-0136-giggle.gif
