Creaking Noise - Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi, think we've partially covered this elsewhere, but here we go.

I've got an Octavia vRS, 03 reg, and have noticed a creaking noise that sounds like it's coming from the rear passenger door area.

It's not very loud, but annoying, and happens whenever I go over a bump in the road, or take a corner even slightly hard - I guess it's "in tune" with stresses in the bodywork or chassis or something.

The boot and back seat are completely empty and there's no trim or anything that seems to be loose.

I have tried greasing the door hinges as suggested elsewhere, to no avail.

Can somebody please advise ?

Rear door or front bulk head?

Here's a quick test for you, put full lock on and compress and release the front corners. If it's a "appearing to be common" fault of bushes on the front ARB then you should hear it.

If not then it could be torsional forces in the trim, I know mine is torrid when the sunroof is open, closed it's fine. Apart from the above "creaking" of ARB joints.

My car developed a similar creaking noise (conveniently, it was just before its first service). It was traced to the locking mechanism holding one of the rear seat backs upright. A slight adjustment cured it.

Yup, tried that, it did make a creaking noise, although it was one I hadn't noticed before (I'll probably notice it all the time now though !) ;) Thanks anyway...... :)

I have given the seat backs a bit of a wiggle and there was a similar noise so that might be it. I'm going to drive home tonight with the back seats dropped flat and see if that has cured it. Ta. :)

I had a similar type noise coming from the rear, turned out to be the cam lock that holds the base of the rear seat backrest coming loose, especially after folding the seat down. Easily sorted by pushing with key/screwdriver

Ooops, Sorry Greg.

I'm a devil for creak spotting and getting a bit "ooh whats that; panic head" mainly as I suspect a terminal failure of hardware shortly afterwards.

The front creak as I understand it is just annoying and not a saftey/maintenance issue, but the dealers did strip the joint down and reassemble. Worked for about 40 miles, now it's back but far quieter :)

Well I washed the car at lunchtime and took it for a spin to dry off, with the rear seats folded down, and the creak was louder than ever ! Wonder if my suspension is properly fixed and lubricated ? Ho hum. Don't really have time to take it to my dealer, so I'll just try to put up with it until my first service :(

Greg,

I had the same creaking myself which was driving me bonkers. I brought it to the dealers and after a quick drive about the mechanic agreed it was the back seat. Fixed it in about 30mins. No recurrence.
