Missing V5

Featured Replies

So, i brought a car on March 5th, and havn't got a V5C yet.

On talking to the DVLA, they have no acknowledgement of the receiving the change of owner details.

On talking to the dealer, they said "oh, we only send the slips off at the end of the month" (The DVLA website says they should be notified immediately)

So, in theory its been about 2 weeks since they sent the change of owner slip off, and the DVLA should have processed the slip by now. As such i need to fill out a V62 form, and pay £25 for the privilidge.

I fully intend on charging them the £25 for the V62, but should i report them to someone for waiting a month to send off the forms in a timely fashion?

This is really for the dealer to sort out. Don't see why you need to move to the need for a V62 at this stage. Presume you have the 'new owner' slip from the V5 the dealer had for the vehicle you've purchased?

Have you called the dealer to confirm they have sent off the slip?

I didn't think you had to pay £25 if you had the new owner's slip.

Dealer says the slip has been sent. I definitely saw it, and filled it in when i brought the car.

*edit* having gone through my paperwork, i do indeed have the "new keeper" supplement, with the dealers details on it, so i don't need to pay the £25. Thats less whinging at the dealers :)

Still not sure whats so difficult about sending in a piece of paper!

You have to send in the new keeper slip to get your V5, i'm sure. Doesn't really matter if the dealer posts his part of.

As long as you have the invoice for the car and no skullduggery you'll get your V5, does take 2 or 3 weeks though.

You have to send in the new keeper slip to get your V5, i'm sure.

no you dont, new one will just turn up. it takes upto 6 weeks at busy periods. The new keeper slip is retained by you are proof of ownership.

Sorry, you're right the slip is so you can tax the car yourself. It's a V62 you can send of if the seller does not do his bit.

6 weeks now? I am out of touch, I wouldn't have thought there would not be much work for the DVLA these days as new cars aren't selling.

It may be "6 weeks" but i've not seen anthing like that wait. When i did the car swap, i sent the slip to the DVLA for my Skoda, and a week later got a confirmation back from the DVLA. My last personalised plate swap took about a week too.
