I knew that maxidot was available on the Fabia 1, but it only came when you ordered sat nav as a factory option. I've never seen one come up for sale, or even seen pics of it fitted for that matter....until now!

I've just been browsing autotrader and came across this

I bet the total number in the UK is only in double figures.

Having had a browse of a Czech equivalent to eBay, it seems that maxidot is a lot more prevalent throughout Europe. Ho hum, the joys of the UK :giggle:

it was an Optional Extra over here but not many people went for it cos of the price, IIRC there was word going round someone had managed to retro fit one once

AFAIK it only was available if you ordered the factory navigation unit in the UK.

A RHD MPH cluster came up for sale not too long ago, but the guy now doesn't want to sell it as it's so rare.

I'm sure this is something that the Shark Wizard Mr Wardle could code in and get working :giggle:

Here is a very old thread about it.

I've just checked a Czech parts website, and it's coming up at €920, that's if it's even available.

I don't even know if the shark wizard is any good with these, I asked him about one a while back and he mentioned some complication, can't remember what though, I'l get back on it and find out :)

What version of immobiliser are they?

Anyone got any part numbers?

I've coded and swapped dozens of different types of MK4 golf/bora/passat clocks.

I'd assume the complication may be immo version, can bus or software.

If they were available from the dealer as an optional extra there's no reason whatsoever why they couldn't be made to work as the wiring must be identical or worst case scenario, slightly different. The main complications are...... immo or software version, and the price.

So if you had clocks which match your immo, in theory it should work.

Well I've just received a call from Bickertons, and the cluster should be available, but it's around £600!

As it would have to be a special order, it will have to be paid for in advance, so even if you got hold of it but then found out that it couldn't be fitted, you'd have wasted a good chunk of money. :(

But wouldn't the dealer order it based on your chassis number? So if it wasn't compatible, it would be their fault.

Yeah, he did say it was for <04 but based on my chassis number, I need the normal vRS cluster as I don't have maxidot so he had to guess.

I've seen threads on this come up over the years..

As far as I know, on the retro fitting front, it's never been fully achieved.. *think* someone did once get everything working (excluding Navigation stuff) but the fuel gauge always read back to front? As in empty was full and vice versa.

Think, in the end, it was concluded that to make it work perfectly required very specific parts and that even say, version A of a part number would be needed over version B etc etc. Plug & Play it so aint!

I can't really see the point myself. Seems like ALLOT of work, well over my "It's worth it to be unique" cost and effort line. And if you do it you'd kinda HAVE to put an MFD & Changer in as well to do a proper job.

I think the fuel gauge being backwards is down to the vRS reading the other way to the rest of the Fabia range.

Unless I win the lottery, or a cluster comes up very very cheap, then there's no way I'm going to risk several hundred squids on something that may not work!

I was just looking at that cluster when i was in the car the other night an thinking would it be possible to have the computer moved to the centre section. makes the dash cluster seem more up market or somehing.

Ok so lets assume the fuel signal from the sender in the tank is a basic value of resistance sent from the strip on the tank.

Surely that's not the most complicated thing in the world to refabricate the sender in such a way to read properly...... or fit a sender from a normal fabia?

I would see the needle reading backwards as a minor obstacle. The price or availability of the cluster is the issue.

ben says "good luck" so take that as you will guys lol, if he says that then i imagine it could be hard to do lol

Haha this will go in the "would be nice" pile then.

unfortunatly yes :(

Am i the only one who thinks it looks messy?? Would much rather a nice JVC double din for £200ish..

Can you ask him if he ever got mine wiped? If he didn't can you give him a nudge for me?
