Just received a letter from BT advising me that they are upgrading my 1Mb connection to 2Mb :D and wait for it not for free but for

Yeah, got the same email after reeading bout it last night on BBC News.

TBH though, since I stopped downloading movies, 24 and music some time ago, the increase for me will be pretty academic. Still very nice though. :D

Let's see if they pass on the savings to the other ISPs - in which case it would nicely reduce my monthly outgoings :D

I think the price reduction is only for 3 months....

... nice all the same. Shame there's no increase in the uplink speed.

woo and yay, hope it comes my way!

Yeah I just got the email too: Upgrade to 2mb line and cheaper for 3 months.

Not bad!!

READ THE SMALL PRINT - only if your line supports it - which means you have to live next to the exchange...

have you read the full article yourself?? BT say that they will tell you YOUR maximum speed if it is not 2MB and upgrade you appropriately

Any of you on 512 ?

I rang and was given the following info:-

1) Current BT yahoo customers can have a 1mb connect for the price of a 512.

&

2) The line upgrade starts on 17th Feb, it will be phased in ( so you wont get it immed ), & as above you will automatically get the maximum speed your line can take.

In order to get a 2mb connection you must live within 5KM of the exchange.

Also if you have a 512 connect, ring 0800 085 2189 (cancellations- a call centre in India) and say you are going to move, and want your MAC , when they ask why, say you are moving for the following reason, - You object to a reduced service i.e limitation on download for the same price as unlimited, and they will reduce your 512 payment by 20% for 5 months. :) ( despite the fact that they are not introducing this limit yet to current customers just yet ).

I've got a feeling that I may be too far from the exchange for this.

how do you find out where the local exchange is?

I'm with F2S now paying 19.99 for 2MB with a 10GB cap per month which suits me fine!:D How much is the BT one?

I just have a vague memory of being told my house was on the 'edge' of being able to get 1mb.

I'm sure BT 150(?) should be able to tell you where the local exchange is.

That'll teach you to live in some isolated backwater...;)

Rob.

cheers skodakid very helpful, now lets see if i can get 2MB, turns out my exchange is all of about 500M away
