Side Protection Strip

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just got a second hand Fabia 90 PS 1.6 CR SE. My wife and I really like the car and are very pleased with it.

One thing we'd like to do is protect the doors from getting bashed by other people banging into them at car parks.

I have been looking at the side protection kits, like this here

Has anyone fitted these already, if so how easy/diff are they to fit. i.e dothey stick on, or do you need to drill into the body work?

Thanks in advance.

Graham

I am also looking at getting these, I presume it's the case they are just stuck on with adhesive pads.

I got them already - no drilling of course, just adhesive strips which I presume they come already fitted with.

Only pain will be to align them properly on the door - other than that it is straight forward job and if you buy the original kit it will have an application manual explaining what to do.

Thanks for the Info... I'll go order - nice job for the Weekend!

I too want these. Although I was hoping to get the dealer to have them sprayed to match the bodywork. I hope they do the job they seem to be very far down the door and not very "proud" if you get my meaning.

You could get them in the same color as the bodywork but their use is to protect the doors from others and most of the time they will be prone to "punishment" so not the best part to paint unless you don't mind re-painting them often.

I thought about them but I don't think they look as good as the plain doors. Still, they are practical I suppose.

I have them. They are really useful to have. Mine didn't stop the stupid clot head the other day putting a ding in my back door but they have saved the day many time previously. I agree about not painting them as they will take the odd knock from people like Richard (Dic*) Head who will insist on parking much much too close and throwing open his door against your car. My dealer fitted mine free of charge.

On my 60 plate elegance as standard but fitted them on my 08 tdi fabia it's easy to put on

Make sure it's warm clean the area well and get the dealer to fit for free, you go with the line on the doors , your dealers should not charge for this , if he wants your custom anyway

Unsure by them, they look a bit big and g4y! On the MK1 they are small enough not to be noticed but in the right place to stop dings. These ruin the side of the car imo...

G4y ? Chase me!!, I've got them on both my fabia's one black and cappuchinno looks fine, but body colour would be better, but it definate needs a strip to break up the size of the doors

Some doors look good minus the strips, think of a nice Lambo with rubbing strips! :D

Sport models need to look sporty, I agree adding them after if the owner wishes to look g4y is up to them ;)

i fitted some on my old car you get with the kit instructions that give you measurements mark out with pencil. i used masking tape as the line.clean the door with autoglym extensive tar remover. then use an hair dryer to warm the area. peel the tape about 30mm top and bottom of strip stick to line of masking tape then pull the tape pushing with hand. try not to get wet for a couple of days. hope this helps

That's the only problem we have here in Scotland finding a day when it won't rain, you would really need to check the weather forecast well in advance. :D

Still think they need the door protectors through as it would break up all the silver on mine.

Thanks for the tips on getting the strips aligned and how to sitck them on. I was thinking about using the Tar Remover - so that's a confidence boost!

I am hoping to make the most of the warm weather expected for the weekend ( even for us up here in Aberdeenshire! ) so with luck I wont need the hair dryer!
