Octy VRS II Gearbox probs - Warranty issues

Featured Replies

So, Im hoping to find out whether any other Octy owners have experienced this issue.

Basically my OCty VRS is 3 years old, warranty ran out on the 06/03/11. All servicing/work has been carried at Skoda dealers. Last service carried out less than 5 months ago.

Last week noticed a knocking that I thought was maybe an engine mount, Friday coming back from London there was a huge clunk. I immediately stopped. The AA fella comes out and comes with me for a drive, seems OK apart from a 'weighty' feeling on the steering and a lack of power (almost like the handbrake was on slightly) AA fella comes out check it over and says that theres nothing happened to make it unroadworthy. Off to the Skoda shop.

Today Im informed that a gearbox mounting bolt (to the sub chassis) has disappeared and due to this the gearbox mountings are buggered (read turned Oval)

Skoda warranty have knocked it back as warranty expired @ 5 weeks ago.....Now to me it's something that doesnt happen overnight, so would have come down to either a material defect of the casing/thread or that the bolt in question wasnt torqued up in the first place.

Has anyone any experience of this fault or how I should proceed? Garage has roughly quoted £1200 to replace the casing or £2500 for a new gearbox. Is there likely to be any damage to the gearbox internals?

Currently the 'complaint' is sitting with Skoda customer services.

Not a rant as such but a bit of a shock and looking for advice

Cheers in advance

Can you not just get hole drilled out and retapped with shims? Would be alot cheaper than replacing gearbox.

It appears that it more than one mounting 'hole' this has happened to.

I'm assuming then most of the repair cost would be to do with dropping the gearbox out to be able to tap the holes. Dealer has already said they wouldn't do a tapping job.

Does that mean the dealer wouldn't or couldn't do a tapping job!! A mounting bolt doesn't drop out and cause the hole to be turned oval in less than 5 weeks unless you have been really abusive towards the car, which I would doubt. I would persue this with Skoda and if no joy then there are other VAG car specialists outside of the dealer network who might be up for the challenge of a drilling and tapping job.

Speak to your supplying dealer and claim under SOGA not warranty.

@CountryBoy - They WOULDNT do a tapping job....although have mates that work in heavy plant stuff so they could do it....possibly

Whats SOGA? (Edit) Ahhhhh Sale Of Goods Act...will try that

Ive logged a 'complaint' with Skoda Cust Services and am awaiting their response.

I havent been ragging it at all, although Ive done a few more miles than usual recently but we're not talking Rep mileage. My argument also was that either there a manufacturing fault in the casting or the bolt wasnt done up properly from supply.

They have also confirmed (full Skoda warranty/service hist) that no work has been done to remove the gearbox previously.

It remains to be seen whats happens.....fingers Xd boys and girls ....Ill keep you posted
