1.4 AUB engine problems

Featured Replies

Hi,

Sorry about this - new to all this.

I have an X-reg 1.4 16v elegance and about a month ago i drove the car up the road and it cut out on me and wouldn't restart. I managed to get it back to the house on idle. it just wouldn't accelerate at all. came out the next morning, went to start it and it fired up then cut out until i fired it up catching the accelerator and it ran as normal. it had no problems after that until now. it fires up, idles perfectly but as soon as you touch the accelerator it revs up to about 1000 revs and then theres no acceleration at all and it starts hunting. changed the coolant temperature sensor and its made no difference.

if anyone can help it would be much appreciated. thank you.

Same engine as mine. What if any warning lights are on the dash? What fuel do run it on, when was the fuel filter last changed, same with spark plugs,air filter, oil, oil filter. For a quick test try the following;

Disconnect the battery negative for about 40mins.Then reconnect it. Then (do not touch the accelerator pedal or any other pedal at all during the whole of this reset)start the engine and let it idle for 30mins (the engine will hunt and sound as if it's going to stall..this is normal) then turn off the engine....job done..this wipes the learned values in the ECU for the engine and resets them to the factory default..so it can learn again.

You will also have to reset the security code (if you have one0 for the stereo and the elec windows

Reset the elc windows...lock the car using the key in the lock...turn key one way or the other way, it might wind the windows down or up even more(we want up)and hold key once fully up for a futher 5 secs..this resets the upper limit for the windows... B)
