Can I fit MDI myself?

Featured Replies

I recently took delivery of my new Elegance and it's proving to be a nice piece of machinery. I ordered various extras (such as the Columbus) but not the MDI connection, mainly because I don't have an iPOD. However... I now I have an iPOD! So at present I've plugged it into the AUX input and it works fine, but I don't really like it rattling around in the centre console, I'd much prefer to select the music on the Columbus screen.

So... can I fit the MDI connection onto the Columbus myself?, or is this a job for the dealer?

AFAIA it's a job you can do yourself

I believe this is the one

Yep, that's the one

Only thing you'll need in addition is the MDI>Headunit loom, which is available from Richter Sport in the UK, for around £40.

Or it's on German eBay, if you prefer.

Thanks for all the info.

So I need;

MDI unit: 5N0 035 342 B - £150.61

fly lead holder trim: 4F0 035 909 - £1.55

Fly lead: 1Z0 971 199 - £58.24

iPod to MDI lead: AZO 800 001 - £22.13

MDI>Headunit loom £40

Which adds up to £270, but my local dealer will do it for £155 including fitting?

MDI interface retrofit for £155 all-in? Bite his hand off!

Confirm first EXACTLY what they're proposing to fit though (!)

The actual MDI unit can be sourced for less, if you can find one. eBay, or I got one off another forum.

I better check what they were proposing "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is"

I had a quick look at the skoda catalog and the MDI is listed as an optional extra for £155, that's probably where he got the price from.
