The dreaded 17705 error....

Featured Replies

Seems to be an epidemic amongst 1.8T's (pressure drop between turbo and dump valve)

Any obvious things to check on a VRS specifically? The y piece of pipe which usually splits seems fine as does the recirc valve.

There's also 2 breathers under the inlet manifold near the dipstick which are worth checking as they split, generally just check all breathers/vac pipes. Could just need a throttle body clean as this tends to help

Have you checked the dump valve itself?

if not a boost leak it could me map or maf sensor. I had this and it was a software issue. if you have no boost leak and It's not going into limp mode I'd leave it alone.

Now and again I get a slight hesitate when accelerating which is what led me to check it in the first place.

Will get me head under the bonnet and check all the hoses. Ive got a spare maf so can swap that out too.

I had that slight hesitation in acceleration you mention for long time. nothing showed up in diagnostics and I checked my maf which was ok

dv was ok too. finally I bought new N75 valve and hey presto...no more jurky acceleration

good luck with it...

I had this last week and is a bitch to sort...turned out to be a failing MAF..

I have same symptoms and 17705 code, this was after a re-map, but i also have 17608 which is DV malfunction. so i'm in the process of trying to find a new one(forge 007p)as been advised the OE one can't cope with the extra boost it now produces, i'll post results when i finally get one.

17608 code could also be N249 valve though

The OE DV is ok, it is known to fail but I had mine on for 4 years without issue after a remap.

The forge 007p is just more reliable than the OE DV. It's a myth that you need to uprate the DV on remapped 1.8T's.

Thanks for the info. from the fault codes on mine i'm thinking it's buggered anyway. sometimes it's really quick and can hear the boost but other times it's a bit down on power and can bearly hear the boost, going to have a look round scrappies this week for spares(always have a shed full of bits for my car lol) so i'll look for some oe ones while i'm there. If i can find a forge one cheap enough i'll get one but funds are very limited as usual

like i've said many times in previous threads on this the 17705 code is a gremlin in the software :wonder:

It's not always a glitch in the software, sometimes it is actually caused by a boost leak or vacuum leak. I had a Custom Code stage 1 map on a Mkiv Golf Anniversary, which had a wrong value written into the software which would throw 17705 on start up. I changed over to Revo after spending weeks chasing a bogus boost/vacuum leak, & never saw 17705 code again. However there are a lot of people on uk-mkivs, & audi sport .net who have had the 17705 code & it's turned out to be a boost or vacuum leak.

It's easy to test the DV. Remove it & push & hold the piston up, then put your finger over the small top pipe let the piston go & it should stay up until you take your finger off. If it drops down with your finger still on the top pipe the seal has gone.

Cheers mate i'll try that tomorrow

New N75 valve fixed mine

I have this code too on a remapped AUM, it still runs fine so I don't worry about it.My Y piece is ok, I've not bothered to check any other hoses
