Paranoia or something worse

Featured Replies

For the past few weeks i've been having problems with my lower boost pipe popping off, solved that by fitting an sfs silicone replacement courtesy of TrevorB33. It seems to me that the car isn't pulling as strongly as it used to in lower gears, im not sure if this is just me being paranoid but it also sounds like a hisssing noise is present when accelerating which I immediately associate with a boost leak, its only audiable with the window down so not sure if its just passing air. I've been checking the upper pipes very regularly and they are perhaps 1mm-2mm gaps between the couplings, not enough to cause serious boost leaks.

Could someone please tell me if the noise im hearing is just the turbo, although the sound does seem different to the sound of it spooling up and if it should be cause for concern or if there is anything else that could be causing the mentioned problems.

Thanks

If yours is standard do a few timed 20-40 30-70mph runs and compare them to the figures on the internet.

A boost leak "hiss" is generally louder than the turbo and an oily residue on the pipes is an indication of the leak.

it is a boost leak my samco pipe does the same when it is pushed right in it is fine but as soon as you go out in the car and apply some boost it pushes the pipe out a few mil and then leaks

Any idea where to get the times?

I've not noticed any oil leaks, is there any video's etc that have the sound of the turbo spooling so I can distinguish what the noise is on mine.

Any way of fixing it that you know of?

i dont fancy drilling into the samco pipe

Fair point, is it causing a noticeable difference in performance?

your find there will always be a slight gap on the couplers be it standard or uprated, the pressure going throught the pipes when under load seals up the joins, thats why when left turned off some of the pipes start weeping oil in time,

try and get a vid of the noise, it may be something as simple as yourve been driving with the window open now the weathers warmer and havent herd the noise before? My car makes alot more noises with the window down then up
