cheers for the link, seems to be the same problem alright, was absalutley chucking it down on the way home today and it was fine, bit of drizle yesterday(that fine rain that soaks you through :) ) and it was making a hell of a niose.

i have some very sticky grease in a can, hopefully i'll be able to lube it up without stripping it down

Jason,

I got this problem fiixed under warranty on my first Octy.

Same as you: light drizzle noisy as hell, heavy downpour no noise!!

The foreman explained it thus:

The spindles are dry; (suspect a manufacturing fault).

Heavy rain enters the spindles and the water acts as a lubricant.

Light rain/drizzle doesn't enter the spindles so the noise is there.

He stripped the assembly down and lubricated the spindles and they never made a squeak again.

Second Octy the noise started almost within 7K miles but co-incided with me self-fitting cruise control, so when the wiper assembly was out I used copper-based grease on the spindles.

At 60K miles I have perfectly silent wipers :D:thumbup:

Hope this helps ?

Not in Cumbria: we are expecting snow and gales; it's another telly/pc day wrapped up in front of the wood burning stove......and some "wag" told me it was warmer in England when I moved from Scotland :finger:

At least the polis seem very polite down here :rofl::rofl:
