engine noise

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have a Superb 2.0 Diesel and got 60000km. Last week it came out a noise from the engine which I never heard before. It sounds exactly like a tappet noise but I changed them all and even the fuel pump I changed but the noise is still there. It is coming from the top part (cylinder head) but I am not sure what it is now. Is there anybody who can give me a hint on it please, I am going crazy :(

Thanks

I have no personal experience of the engine (yet) but it will help if you give everyone more info on your engine is it a PD, CR, 140, 170? etc.

Is it a Mk1 or Mk2 ?

I think looking at what I can see you have a MK1 with a 2.0 PD engine in it, right now you need to stop driving it, you may have oil pump failure arriving, if you've used the wrong oil you may have done the camshaft in, what you ask is impossible to diagnose over a forum tbh, it needs pro ears on it, one thing I will say though, check the egr valve, these make that noise when they fail.

it is MK2 2.0 TDI CR 140. i checked the pressure with the pressure gauge and it is good and oil is getting to the camshaft. I will have a look at the EGR valve and will inform on the status

Thanks

If it's a CR the oil pump is unaffected, get a long screwdriver and place it at different points around the engine and get your ear on the handle and see if you can locate the area it's coming from, check the drivebelt's incase debris is catching in there, but a lot of knocking/ticking noises can come from split diaphrams in component's.

To tell you I replaced even the timing belt and tried to follow the noise which I think it coming from the top part of the engine, it seems it is coming from the fuel system like injectors

Oh, I think that could be the problem if you haven't timed it up right, fuel inj does tick anyway, like the sound of a spark plug firing, can I ask why you've taken a lowish mileage car to bits anyway?

the problem started when I was driving on a normal speed (80km/h) and this metalic noise came out, that is why I changed the tappet and timing belt

Oh right, check the gearbox housing with the screwdriver trick, you may have a DMF breaking up, hard for me to say as I don't really know what the sound is like.
