1.9 d pick up

Featured Replies

Hi all new to this but found some god advice, great forum

I have a drama with my 1.9 Felicia (1999) pick up, I get no glow plug light on my dash, car wont start. The top is off the grey glow plug relay (104),when i manually push in to make contact and wait a few mins the car starts? I have tested voltage to glow plugs, all ok there. Why would I not get a glow plug light lighting up on my dash? could it be the black relay next to the grey one, think this is a glow plug control unit? I have tested the fuses they seem ok? any help, its driving me mad having to lift the bonnet to start it...cheers.

Nearly 50 views and not 1 reply, no ideas then ?

your not getting a light because your relay is not connecting, in turn wont send power to plugs and no go! change your relay, take out your plugs and test them, and if any are gone replace the lot. thats what i would do.

Thanks for a response, I have tested the glow plugs and getting voltage, I have also changed the grey relay, still no joy, waiting for a new glow plug control unit to arrive.will keep posting how I get on, thanks so much for the advice, Might as well replace everything as you suggested. cheers Dude.

hi, got the same problem when mine is hot (ok when cold), on the bottom of the grey relay is a tiny spade connector if you earth it out the relay works,

i ran a wire to a switch & earthed it in car,

Ive now changed the glow plug control unit,(used) and the glow plug relay, will try running a wire and see what happens, cheers for advice. Its killing me having to lift the bonnet to start it, least no one is gonna nick it quick ! :)

Mate I changed the temp sensor today, hey presto got glow plug light and she runs sweet as a nut...switch on dash no longer required...cheers for advice.

I've also had recent problems with glow plugs, swapped plugs, spent hours fiddling with relay, fuses etc. Turned out to be a sticking door switch (which is linked to the glow plug circuit & activates it when the drivers door is opened), bit of wd40, all working well. Wish I'd tried it first though!

hi, glad you sussed it, where is the temp sensor?,

Mate looking at the engine, the sensor is housed just above the last glow plug,it should have a multi plug connector on it and a green colour band runs round the sensor, its a 2 minute job to replace, hope this helps.

I changed the glow plugs, bit of a struggle but its possible to change them all without having to move any pumps or pulleys, I stupidly put some cheap ones in but I think I need to splash out and go back with new densos... moral is cheap is not always best.
