What tools do i need to remove egr?

Featured Replies

Ive given up for the day trying to remove my damn egr (fabia vrs).

Cannot get to or remove the bolts to the rear of the damn thing.

Do i need a special ball shaped allen key?

Would have to be damn small can hardly get my hands down there and one of the bolts has some metal casting in the way.

Help anyone please!

I gave up on my mates Polo cos i couldn't get to the rear bolts!

To get onto the bottom bolt you have to remove the metal pipe first, take the two 12mm nuts off the turbo and the two 6mm bolts going upwards into the bottom of the valve. Then you undo the 5mm allen key bolts on the valve itself.

it is possible to get it off without removing the pipe on the bottom, just remove it turbo end...

then a long 5mm allen key and a spanner to use as a bit of leverage ;)

I removed mine this way, was off in 10mins after an hour of trying to get the bolt you mentioned

Thanks for your help everyone.

Too late in the day to attempt it again, although i eventually managed to get the lower bolt loose but as time was against me i have just put everything back, except i cant do that feckin rear bolt up, its not going anywhere though.

Just driven it for 5 miles and it has not come loose and fallen out, looks like i will have to buy the 5mm rounded allen key tomorrow and sort it out!

Think it will be wise to guy the manifold gasket too for when i take that off too!

Depends if you deleting EGR or not, if you are the pipes got to come off anyway so might swell save yourself some bother.

No im not fitting an allard or similar.

Will be leaving the egr pipe off and blocking the egr input so it doesnt open.

Just realised after reading through previous forum posts that im better off cleaing egr, mainfold and intercooler all in one go, thats why i will prob need to replace the manifold gasket?

What about the eml or you going to get it mapped out if it's an ASZ?

Its BLT so i guess im going to have to live with the light on the dashboard, dont think it can be mapped out on BLT ?

No it can't.

No pint removing the pipe, just block off one of the ends with a metal plate.

this is what confuses me, what do i block off and where can i get a plate?

Is this better than removing the pipe and blocking that?

Also as the BLT cannot be mapped out, if i have something else wrong with the car i wont know as the light will be on anyway lol.

How are you going to block the pipe anyway? Your better off just fitting the 9mm hole gasket and leave it at that tbh.

oh i fitted the 9mm almost 3 years ago, first thing i did with the car after i bought it lol

:p

I blocked the egr rubber pipe with a rubber foot off a broken laptop!

Think im getting confused on what your suggesting i block... the rubber pipe, the pipe from manifold that people block on using an allard replacement etc.

I the only one i have blocked is the rubber pipe that was connected to the top of egr (top of egr is blocked too)

What about cutting a couple of slivers of coke can in the shape of the port, with the bolt holes, and inserting at the turbo end, sandwiched between the pipe and the manifold? Then the EGR can still move about as it needs, not that it will actually ever get anything from the exhaust.

Hmmm sounds like a plan although im still new to this engine setup and not really sure what to blank.

Pictures ive seen on this forum seem to be ASZ engines too.

Could someone draw a rough diagram of what to block, wouldnt want to block the wrong port hole lol!

Yup make sure you blank turbo end not egr end as that hose bursts under pressure

Mistake i made :o

Tried that for a test on a problem car, even three layers lasted less than 4 miles before it burnt through.
