Possible feeler: Fabia vrs 2003

Featured Replies

Still very much undecided about changing, so just testing the waters.

Car in question is a 2003 53-plate Fabia vrs in black magic.

"Standard" bits and specs:

  • Fabia vrs with around 90k miles
  • black magic paint
  • Cruise control (not factory fitted but using OEM parts)

Mods:

  • Hybrid turbo
  • Forge FMIC
  • Sachs Motorsport organic clutch and pressure plate
  • Richard Washbrook custom remap - very conservatively mapped. Dynoed at JKM producing 183 bhp and around 330 ft.lb torque
  • Full Milltek exhaust
  • Brembo GT 4 pot calipers up front with 323mm discs and Ferodo DS2500 pads. I have a second set of vented front discs pretty much brand new.
  • Powerflex front bushes. Still have the rear ones I bought but haven't fitted them
  • front ARB (Seat one)
  • Jabba lower rear ARB
  • Eibach springs
  • Koni FSD shocks. One of the rear ones failed last year so had both rears changed under warranty
  • Audi TT comp allows recently refurbished in anthracite with 4 new tyres (235/40/17)
  • Alloy sump guard (the one Josh organised as a group buy years ago!)
  • Green panel air filter
  • PD160 air intake
  • shortened gear knob

The "bad bits" - I'm being 100% honest here :)

  • Since I bought the car, it's only had one or two Skoda dealer stamps in the service book. Following services and oil changes have been done by Ross / Alistair / Chris & myself. All using proper oil and OEM filters. Just no stamps in the book. :)
  • The odd paint chip on the bonnet. I supposed to be expected for the age and mileage.
  • Slight dent on front left wheel arch
  • Scratch / dent on B-pillar / rear of driver's door
  • heat flap sensor / motor occasionally plays up (known issue!)
  • Air Con leaky somehow. I had it fully serviced and regassed, worked fine for a couple of weeks then doesn't. Compressor is obviously fine but there must be a leak somewhere
  • rear left passenger's door's central locking playing up. I believe it's a common VAG fault / problem but haven't got round to fixing it
  • Handbrake sometimes a bit iffy. It's to do with one of the rear calipers not working, but will change both rears so that will be fixed.

Since getting the alloys refurbished and putting 235 tyres on, she drives very very nicely. Apart from the heat flap / ac points, she's been ultra reliable and has never let me down or hiccuped even once.

I realise I'm not going to get anywhere near what it's worth with the mods so might take off the "easy" ones, especially FMIC, ARBs, panel filter, air intake. Could change front Brembos for original 288 but don't have the calipers/pads/disks. The Brembos do require at minimum 17" alloys with a LOT of clearance between the hub and the spokes. Either that or spacers are required!

I'll get some photos up at some point.

The long timers here will recall this is Ross' original car, and probably the first with serious modding done to it. The hybrid turbo was already fitted as were the Brembo brakes, Eibach springs and Milltek exhaust. I then changed the clutch (the original was slipping with the torque!), and added all the other bits listed above.

So any ideas what she's worth?

got any pics??

I'm guessing people will tell you stupidly low prices as they did for mine but don't listen to them.

Guys on the forum reckon my 53k 04 plate Corrida red furby vrs was worth around £4,200 or so.

Someone "almost" bought it for £6,000 and left a deposit (let me keep it when his son changes his mind overnight).

You would definitely be better off de-modding and best bet is autotrader as people pay more on there.

my 05 plate with 76,000 and near full service history has been on autotrader for about 4 weeks now for £4500 with very little interest. Seems thats all they are worth.

I ended up selling my immaculate 54 plate Fabia vRS with 99k on the clock for £3400; now that I'm looking for one again I cant seem to find one anywhere near as cheap as that!

Good luck with the sale Xavier.

The issue seems to be people set a price, everyone starts saying the price is too high, the seller loses confidence, then someone comes around and makes a stupid offer, and the seller accepts!

Set a price and stick to it!

The best way to make the money back though is (sadly) split, and return what you can to standard. You have a LOT Of sought out mods, and I believe you could easily make £1500 just selling the mods and swapping to standard.

Have you got any pictures of the car too?

are there any pics of this car around the site at all??

TBH your looking at normal price for it

the mods seem to mean nothing...

i had a hybrid fabia, and its on an 05 plate with 77k and the new owner couldnt budge it a 5700, so they aint worth a lot

id be looking at anywhere from 4.5-5k... possibly... you might not get that

its worth anout the same with or without mods, unless you can sell it to someone who wants it specialist, and is willing to pay for your time and effot on it you wont see massive returns. i would say dont ask less than 5k for it

If you were to split i'm pretty certain all of your mods would sell very quickly indeed, I would have a few things myself!

No don't do it! :)

Are you sure they're 235 width tyres Xav?

I'll go with the majority and say you might as well sell it standard and then sell the modified bits on. The most sensible and financially viable route, but it does mean hassle.

As for value - I'd say 4k-ish. But I think honestly it's worth more to you than that as it is, which is why you should keep it emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Steve, yes, they're 235 wide tyres. I started with 205, then had 215. Both were too narrow (profile was more like a trapezium than a rectangle!). Now I have 235, they fit perfectly and the sidewalls are perpendicular.

I promise to get some photos up next weekend.

I guess my "feeler" was because I'm at the point where I'll probably have to start spending more on it which doesn't make sense if I'm to sell it on. I think I'll keep it for now, so yes, you're right Steve :)

If you don't want them rear bushes, I'll take them off you though ;-)

Desperatley in need of some!

I'd guess you can make £2k+.

I made £1200 from my mods (the 165bhp car on classifieds)

I'd say mid to high 3's if you put it back to standard. :( would of thought you'd make a few quid selling/swapping for standard (plus cash) the mods.

Air con fault could put a few people off (if they notice it) if they don't believe it's not a compressor fault.

Was a very cared for car ;)

One of the first to run a hybrid!

Back in the day...

back in the day indeed. Still remember the brief ride in a very clean motor after having my brakes fitted :)

Xavier, you sound like your in the same frame of mind as me, the brain is telling me that it makes sense to sell it, yet the daft car still tugs the heart string.

might be interested in this if funds allow next month and its the right sorta price fella. would want it how it stands with all the mods

A few photos.

Please excuse the dirtiness. there's a building site next door and sometimes, it looks more like a sandy beige than a black magic!
