Trip to scrappy tomorrow

Featured Replies

Ok so i'm of to the scrappy tomorrow(today now/Thursday) to try and source some spare/replacement parts.

I'm already looking for a DV and a CCM as i'm having problems with them, but what else should I be looking for?( what other parts would be handy to have as spares?)

Also does anyone know if any other manuacturers/models use the same ccm

coilpacks

coilpacks

lol should be getting them from skoda recall next week :giggle:

can't hurt to have a couple of spares though

Well, hopefully we will never need spares again. Guess we shall just wait and see. B)

Maybe get an N75 valve, fuel cap (the string on mine has snapped, bet yours is getting tatty).

Was gonna suggest a pocketful of bulbs for the high level brake light, but noticed you have an estate, which is LED iirc. Halfords want 2 quid for each one, and there's 16 of them!

Is there any way to check the cable for the fuel flap?

I'm hoping there will be an R32  for the arb's etc but I seriously doubt it lol

knowing my luck there won't be anything with a VAG 1.8t in it at all :'(

I mean the rubbber string which holds the cap to the car.

You've got me thinking now - Could you put an R32 engine in an octy?

just checked my rubber string and looks fine( no wear at all)

as for the R32 engine, the chasis and front suspension are(from what i can gather) the same setup for the R32 and the octy(not sure if it's just the 4x4) so quite possible with my logic  There is a company advertising on ebay at the minute for the R32 engine £1800 fitted( but that may just be to replace one in an R32 rather than a conversion) Like the sound of an R32 Octy though would be quite unique

I'm sure someone(probably snow-muncher) will correct me if i'm completely wrong

I'm going to have a look for boost pipes and intercoolers from other cars as i'm thinking about doing my own FMIC or relocating the stock intercooler to the front and also relocating the DV

MAF, MAP, n75 are always on my shopping list with a visit a scrap yard, but it seems that someone else have always got there before me.

The fan blower/recirc assembly could be handy if your recirc flap is playing up. I think you will need an Octy - all the Golfs in my local yard don't have climatronic and the assemblies look totally different.

Anyone got the details of these bulbs, wattage, dimensions and a photo? I might be able to source a considerably cheaper alternative.

Tom

I will be looking for Golf mk4 aero wipers next time I go to a scrappy lol

Id suggest ringing to see what they have first, may save you a wasted journey..

Do it

+ turbo/supercharger conversion of course B)

I have thought about it several times ~ folks kept telling me 'too heavy', 'too expensive too turbocharge' ~ you do not need to heavily modify the internal to support big power, they weigh 30kg more, they will properly support a big turbo - GT30+, output 450bhp, similar torque, without lag, you need a custom exhaust for a octy 4x4 anywhay ...

This is what I really want in my engine bay ... ( let me know if you see one at the 'yard )

Hang on, I'll just go change my trousers :p

Don't think i'm likely to find one of them  be lucky to find anything after an '02' plate, I don't have fantastic local scrappy but can usually find some stuff i need (just not what i want  )

Isn't that the engine from the TTRS? 2.5 5 cylinder?

You could make one fit I'm sure B)

Hi Tom, they're 12v 2.3W, and pretty much 5mm diameter.

:( couldn't even find a 1.8t vag engine and only had 1 felicia in for skoda, so didn't manage to get anything

was already down the road running an errand so not a complete waste of time(although actually going to the scrappy was)

looks like i'll have to convince the mrs to let me spend some money to get some bits  that should be fun

I've got a standard DV if you want one.

Forgot I had it. Was sorting out the car parts box and found it.

Octys are very rare in the scrappys, if there at all. And ones that are there unless they are very recent will be stripped big time.

Try looking for VW Golfs and Audi TT's you can get the same stuff off them and more common

Only had 2 golfs in a mk1 and a mk3 diesel. Generally not many vags at all

ultra rare up here too - just not that many about, and i think if they can be repaired they usually are!!!

Shows how much of a good car they must be if people would rather fix them. Scrappy had loads of fords vauxhall fiat etc

I saw a silver taxi Oxty mk1 in a scrappy yard. Every panel was bent, and was every sheet of glass was broken, apart from the one in the front nearside door (which, thankfully was the one I needed).

Never seen a mk2, I guess they need to be quite bent before they get written off, or maybe I visit the wrong class of scrap yard. The places I go to are muddy and have ShiftyLooking people there. :wonder:
