Tuning Octavia vrs mk1

Featured Replies

Hi all. Recently I have been wondering about the best ways to take a fairly standard Octavia with just a remap and simple breathing mods to the next level of tune. I'm guessing most people would upgrade to the k04 turbo but I am unsure as to what the other differences are between the 1.8t 180 bhp AUQ engine and the TT / S3 / Cupra R 225 bhp models, if any? Would be very appreciated if anyone could let me know what else is different between the two engine specs other than the turbo :)

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi, there is quite a bit of information if you use the search tool. Its not that simple to just upgrade the turbo though and you can take the AUQ a bit further by going with a stage two map. The BAM engine has different turbo, manifold, internals, intercooler etc. Good luck and hope you have deep pockets!

+1 as stated not a cheap conversion, and you may get a complete Bam engine/turbo second hand for less.

A remap to stage 2 will take you to the std BAM engine / K04 turbo performance but again remaps are not cheap but a hell of a lot easier. You would need better intercooler and exhaust though which you would also need if fitting the Bam engine or K04 turbo onto your motor. Another option is to get a K03s hybrid turbo, which would take you way past a std BAM output with less hassle. can retain more of the other parts on your engine.

Think if i was starting over again with the tuning , that would be my preferred option.

But depends of how much power you are looking for.

Apparently you can have your original K03S converted to a hybrid which is suppose to be cheaper, speak to Mountie66 ;)

Thanks guys, I was sure that it wouldn't just be a 'bolt on' modification and there would be other differences between the two engine specs I just didn't know what they were. Was only looking for 270(ish) BHP as the end goal - how much do hybrid k03s turbos tend to cost? does the car need any other new parts for a hybrid turbo to be fitted?

From what I've read previously on here you'll need mucho money to get anywhere near that bhp. Better off selling it and getting an wrx sti. Atleast the brakes and suspension will be sorted too.

And before you mention mpg or insurance. There won't be much in it once you've sone the mods then declared it to your ins company.

You can get 270 with a K03s hybrid.£700 frontmount £500ish fuel reg.high flow fuel pump dump valve and uprated pipes for turbo And most of all oil pickup pipe a must do if you just got car.....then £500 for brakes and a good set of tyres, and coilovers £400

And last but not least a remap£300 to 350 for a custom one. And then £30000 a year for super unleaded..loooool
