That misting problem..

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Last night I noticed the car rear door's glass and rear window misting up a bit when driving at night. It seemed to happen only when the outside temp dropped to 4 degrees or less. The plenum chamber/pollen filter has been done. Any ideas what might be causing this? We've had little or no rain for weeks now and I cant figure this out. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rob

hi fella, i too have had this and posted a thread ( if thats what its called) many views but know reply , dont know why ?

so i went and had a look around.

but i can tell you that if its misting up then theres damp or water in there

you say the pollen filter and housing are done or ok ,do a quick check on the bonnett cable grommet,

then you need to check under the ns front and rear foot wells under the carpet,

the lagging under the carpet is thick and holds a lot of water and you wont necessarily feel it on top of the carpet.

check this link below, it will help you find the other 'water' leak

http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=44216

copy and paste it in , it will show a Seat rear door with the exact same problem ,as the designs are exactly the same.

this goes for front and rear doors on many cars as they use this system of holding all the window mechanism and other bits on a un boltable plate, which uses a rubbish seal that leaks, ( sounds like the pollen filter housing lol )

then read and study

carry out the instructions

i went out and did the repairs straight away and guess what,

no more problems,

NOTE this part isnt mentioned, you will see a bolt at the bottom coming through from the inside of the door showing just the thread, seal this two , as it leaks.

let me know how you got on

Thanks a mill, thats a great link.

However, I did a bit of searching and found when I poured water into the sunroof drains, both drain bungs below the door hinges were a little blocked but I managed to clear them.... But wait for it....... There is a hole in the floor behind the drivers door jam..!! Looks like someone tried to jack it up in the wrong spot or it hit a high curb etc, but water was draining out of there as well. Confused? I was. I don't understand how water is getting down there, ie; that far back from the proper drain bung. It seems it's coming down the B pillar from the sunroof. More investigation to be done, but I'm guessing thats the problem and I'm expecting a water logged underlay etc etc. Oh the joy's of Superb ownership..!! Again, any advice much appreciated.

Thanks again,

Robbie

I'll post my results.

hi there , im sorry i didnt mention the sunroof drains , der ! i assumed it didnt have one like mine !

there is another way water gets in , through the rear lights and tracks down under the boot carpet and in, some say dont park up hill and some say dont park down hill, either way it seems waters gonna get in !

ive had my superb since the beginning of feb and i still havent got round to driving it yet !

the sunroof drains will again cause this problem, as i said mine doesnt have that gremlin, but did have many others!!

before you check the under lay,

see what electrical systems are working..front and rear courtesy lights, front and rear door puddle lights, front red rear view mirror lights, folding mirrors, central locking, door mirror lights, and inner door handle lights, phew.. some of these might not be fitted, but they are on my elegance, none of these worked at all, until i looked under the underlay and found MANY broken rotten wires ( click my user name and theres a topic there about this with detailed pictures) i hope ive been able to help.

All the CCM functions are working perfectly. The reversing sensors are not working but that's not the CCM (I don't think). Also lately, I'm getting an intermittent "Check Brake Pads" on the maxidot but I'm guessing that's a faulty pad sensor...

Thanks for the reply,

Rob

I also get periodic check brakes message and non functioning reversing sensors. It happens when it rains.

Most of the lads on here say the reversing sensors are rubbish and generally fail at some time, mine have never worked, but why would you get the brake message when it's raining? I am getting that raining or not.

Thanks,

Robbie

Presumably water getting in where the pad sensor wire joins the car's wiring.
