Why should I pick the vRS?

Featured Replies

personally i think the ds3 is the most ugly looking car lol those silly vertical drls on the side are terrible, in general i just think it looks terrible. the ibiza as said is pure chav/boy racer. and as one guy said, why wouldnt you buy the vrs??? lol and dont be going by 0-60 times not that it really matters, from memory ds3 is the same as a fiesta st, my fabia beats it for frig sake as standard and im 9.6 apparently lol

DS3 = 154bhp @ 6000rpm and 7.3secs 0-60

vRS = 178bhp @ 6200rpm and 7.3secs 0-60

vRS weighs 1318kg compared to the DS3's 1165kg. (Kerb weights) So the DS3 weighs 150kg less (approx 2 people) so no wonder it can do a quick 0-60.

Looks wise its all personal preference, I think the DS3 is funky but not for me. The Seat Ibiza is a bit odd and carries the boy racer title. The vRS is understated and looks pretty good, albeit a bit like a Suzuki Swift.

Not to mention the quoted 7.3 could be slightly less due to VAG understating Skoda's ability. This has been noticed on many occasions! The polo will do it in 6.8 but the almost identical VRS is .5 of a second slower??? hmmmmmm.......

Plus it depends on how they get the weights. Is the car empty or with a full tank of fuel and some passengers? I think the 0-60 time difference between the GTI and the vRS is carp. Either VW are lying or Skoda are underestimating

+10000000000000000

Effectively german build quality and very competitive pricing more or less did it for me. Is also the only 1.4 TSi 180 DSG variant you can get in an estate which is why it was the winner. Polo was too small, Ibiza's build quality a bit patchy.

Dont like French cars so would rule out any Citroen or Renault.

Without the VAT deal I probably wouldnt consider one though.

Because you know you want one? ;)

Auto Express tested the DS3 Fabia vRS and Polo Gti in February

0-60 in the order above 7.3/6.8/6.9

30-70 in the order above 7.4/6.0/6.0

50-70 in 5th/6th/7th gears 7.2/9.6/NA 5.1/6.7/8.7 5.1/6.3/8.2

I am assuming these are "tested" figures as the makers do not normally supply in-gear figures (?)

The Fabia was also a bit quicker on the brakes..up to 1m shorter at all tested speeds..could be the difference between hitting a child that runs out or not !!

got some performance figures for you here from EVO. remembering the fabia and polo are neigh on identical in performance as same engine, chassis gearbox, software etc etc

Also bear in mind this is the DS3R which is considerable more powerful than the normal DS3 which is about 50Hp short of this

not bad considering the others are more powerful by 11-30hp!!  takes the mini up until 80mph before its extra 30hp allows it to beat the Polo.  they should really have compared it to the normal Cooper S though and not the Cooper S JCW

wonder what those stats would be like with the cheeky stage one remap ;)

The Fabia looks easier to mod because it doesn't have a strange exhaust angle, should be easy to swap..

stage 1 is old news , go straight to stage 2 with a decat is what i say....

The only thing about exhausts I find interesting are Varex variable mufflers. Dont know if that would "de-cat" the car in any sense but I love the ability to not sound like a tit all the time.

well mine has just been stage 1'd @ shark performance and is just about to have the exhaust changed and stage 2 map eveloped.

they just put a teaser up and its sub 6 seconds 0-62 and sub 14second 0-100. looking forward to stage 2 now. shame i wont get to drive it at stage 1 tbh.

Any idea of the cost and BHP of stage 1 from them mate?

you will need to speak direct to them mate. ill do a review of it once ive ran it for a while, ill include costs as well then once ben is firm on his pricing

It depends what you want really: as an original Fabia VRS owner I was keen to try the new one but to be honest, though it is an extremely capable car in many ways, I was a bit underwhelmed. I think that the DGG box played a large part in this. It is a clever and trick system but made the driving experience really uninvolving for me: a bit like a play station. I also hated the lag pulling away from a junction and thought the handling was a bit "leany" too. On the positive side the engine is an absolute little cracker ( providing all those bolt ons remain reliable), the price with the VAT offer is unbeatable and the estate version is unique in its blend of performance and practicality. My advice would be to drive all of them and see what you would prefer. If they did the estate with a manual box i'd be tempted.

I wouldn't say it leant in the bends more than the old one... less so from what I found on my test drive. I agree slightly with the DSG vs Manual setup, although if you are from an era where computers/xbox etc is your thing you'll love the DSG and the ability to change with paddles etc.

I have an xbox racing steering wheel/pedals so getting some practise already :D

I've used the paddle shift once or twice already, it's really quite fun!

VRS DSG is the speedy, slightly off-radar car of choice for the playstation generation.

Spending even more time behind the VRS wheel now me PS3 is cream-crackered online due to wacky-hackers.

Tonight was the first time I actually went out for a drive just for the sake of it, and I really enjoyed it.

I tried doing it when I picked up my short lived Ibiza, and while I did have fun, I came home thinking all along "I shouldn't have bought this..."

Never mind :)

I bloo@y missing call of duty modern warfare online, shocking hackers I prefer the manual box but eventually all cars will have the dsg in one form or another, seat build quality not on a par with skoda even though they are vag , same ethos not at seat it's maniana, Citroën and Renault are basically the same FRENCH bag of nails

If only I used my PS3 enough to justify having my details robbed by Russian mobsters...

VRS because it's the only car that does what it does for the money.

Xbox is where its at chaps - still playing COD :D

Yeah - if they didn't keep blowing up on me I'd still have one!

I have an Xbox 360 AND a PS3. Oh, and a Wii too.

Goddamn I spend too much money :D
