Can anyone help me?

We have a problem with our 1600cc octavia (2000) everytime we come to a stop at a junction or roudabout our engine dies.

We have been told it could be the fuel pressure regulator.

Other than this the cars runs lovely.. when idling it is really smooth.

any ideas please

could be simply that the idle is too low?

I reckon it could be the crank position sensor...

Like Big K says though, it could be any one of a number of sensors - you're best getting it hooked up to diagnostics and getting any error codes read.

Would advise getting it looked at sharpish though, if the sensor completely fails then you'll probably be going to the dealer with the car on the back of a lowloader.

have you any suggestions of where to get a diagnostic set up to it apart from the main dealer. they seem to want to charge just to talk to you..... :eek:

Perhaps if you're able to post where you live (to the nearest big city) someone with the diagnostics computer might be able to help you :thumbup:

If you go in and say you're getting some strange behaviour, and ask them to hook it up to the computer, read the error codes and give you a quote to fix it (which you then go and "think about" at a local independent), they usually won't charge you.

Or, as Simon said in the previous post, there might be a member with the diagnostics software close to you who can help... :)

I had a similar problem on my 2.0i Pug 306. I am not familiar with the fuel injection system on the Octy but it may be a similar problem to yours...

The car drove normally but as soon as the car came to a halt at the lights/junctions it would just die unless the throttle was held on. There was no idle whatsoever. This turned out to be the idle stepper motor...a small electric operated plunger that was supposed to retract from a drilling in the throttle body to allow air into the engine at idle when the throttle was closed. In my case the stepper motor was sticking closed so when I took my foot off the accelerator at idle no air could get into the engine.
