Noisy tyres

Featured Replies

I'm becoming really p...d off with the racket generated by the Bridgestone Potenzas on my L&K; predominantly between 20-30mph.All's fine on M-ways, but a lot of my motoring's in town and what should be a fairly good driving experience is marred by this unacceptable din.I'm getting very near to changing all four, although there's 1000's of miles left in each.Anyone any suggestions before I get rid of the car??

In anticipation.David.

PS. I'm sure there have been many threads on this issue, but all advice would be much appreciated.Cheers.D

Dad has just replaced two of them on his company Audi A3 which has covered 17k since new.

Now got Hankooks and it's much quieter.

I have the Bridgestone Turanza on my Elegance model and do have the same problem.

They now have 20KM and can´t wait to change them to Michelin.

They do last well, not very good on wet surface, they aren´t comfortable ( they have the tire side wall protection)

A friends Octavia came with Goodyear tires and he is very satisfied with the result.

I've had previous experience of Bridgestone Potenzas and vowed never to fit them again because of the noise they make, but low and behold they turned up again on my current L&K. They are dreadfully noisy, but I wouldn't change the motor just because of them, just wait until they wear down and replace with a quieter set.

Same experience with the Bridgestones, depends on your willingness to chuck tyres before they are worn out but in the end I did, My choice was Michelin PS3 but I understand Goodyear F1 Assymetric is good choice too, It is a symptom of the chassis geometry and the tyre design and it has marred many many Octavia oweners experience who had Bridgestone as fitted tyres. You will always get some noise from different surfaces but that hideous drone will disappear. Some on here recommend getting the alignment and camber checked out but don't just let a tyre depot touch it unless you are sure they are fully competant to set the car up and measure it properly to start with let alone fiddle with the geometry.

Ps.... much modern info suggests that legal minimum of 1.6 mm is too little for modern wide tyres and minimum tread of around 3.00 is much safer anyway so don't feel guilty about "wasting" tyres that appear to have tread left.

I fitted Michelin Pimacy HP to my old Octavia to reduce the noise and they were much better than what was on there before (Pireli P6000 awful tyre)

I got rid of some cheap and nasty tyres on the Leon when 1/2 worn due to noise- running Conti SC3 now. Glad I did it.
